• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

J&M CB Antenna Upgrade Kit

The guy I used ride with sold his Goldwing trike. Hey, please give the name of the glue. I saved the tab, I will just take it apart again. However, it pretty solid as is, but I know it will bug me if I know I can fix it and dont. I blamed braking the tab on my pain killers.

Devcon Plastic Welder. I've always gotten it at an auto parts store like AutoZone or Pep Boys.

Sometimes you can reinforce the glue with some fiberglass. I've used small pieces of the fiberglass joint tape for wallboard since I usually have that laying around.

Once piece of advice when using the glue.......
When they say "Use in a well ventillated area", this time they really mean it.
This glue is pretty stinky.

Good luck.

Ditto on letting us know after the test. I am also looking at this mod. I was definitely disappointed after the CB upgrade to find the TX distance was very limited. Also, how hard is it to break into the back sides where the antenna's are mounted?

BREAK! Don't use that word!

It was very easy, I just went slow on the dissemble because I had never done it before. I used the RT repair manual because I didn't like the instructions that came with the antenna. If any of you want to give me a call, just PM and I will send you my number.

Guess when you are talking about the tupperware, break is considered a bad word... :roflblack:

Waiting to hear back on the testing before I buy. I want to make sure this will do the job since I have already sunk a good chunk of change into the COM system to begin with. I would have expected this upgrade to have worked better "out of the box".

Well, the install is a breeze (probably because I had my SAMCRO shirt on)...) . One question, what is the best way to tighten the antenna. If you put it together in reverse order the hole on the top of the tupperware is too small to get a wrench in. One thing I noticed right away was the difference in the size (diameter) of the antenna.

Thanks

I mounted the staff onto the brass block then loosely threaded the brass bolt so I could move the antenna while tighting up the skin. Then tighten down the brass bolt. That way you don't have to tighten the antenna shaft from the outside.

Finally! I was able to connect up with a buddy that I had went riding with before I switched out the antenna. I noticed some improvement in the reception. However, my buddy said there was a 100% improvement in my transmissions. He said he could rarely understand me before and now he understood everything I said. He said there was less static and more clarity. Of course, he said it is not as clear as his Goldwing but it was a great improvement. It was a nice change to be able to carry on a conversation without, "sorry dude, but I can't copy you." For me, it was a great investment.

Steve, glad the new antenna is working better than the OEM. I hope BRP is reading these posts. I guess I will order one, but my riding buddies tell me my CB works "pretty well".

:spyder2:

I got the Bluetooth fixed about 3 weeks ago. It was a bad Garmin GPS plug and had to replace the Garmin harness. The harness and labor was $300. Works great now.

I did the SWR reading to see if I had a bad CB antenna and the readings are within parameters. So the CB is what it is.

Has anyone tried the J&M antenna through the mountains out west? Just wondering how reception is? I'm looking into upgrading mine to J&M and we have a road trip coming up in July to the west coast.

Also, the CBs are currently stopped in production and they are looking into issues with the system. I recently bought my Spyder and my CB is on backorder until furthur notice. The dealer told me they do not have any idea when they will fix the issue and start supplying them again. I heard the issue is when using the CB on the 2014's and pushing the PTT button, the Spyder would go into Limp Home mode sometimes. Has this happened to any one, is it true? Does anyone have the "scoop" on what's going on? I would love my CB before my summer vacation ;)

I would recommend you upgrade to the j&b block then install a firefly light antenna.

The oem is thin the j&m is about 50 percent thicker. The firefly is about double the j&m! And that's the light weight one

Also do the metalic tape on the back of the antenna mount plastic while your in there

And extra ground the cb unit case

Thanks! I'm going to go do my research into the firefly!
