There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Is Shifting without using the clutch possible? SM6

Before anyone throws the use the search engine, I tried to no avail.
I am purchasing a 2014 RTS with the 6 speed manual transmission.
Being a truck driver that doesn't use the clutch between gears, is that possible with this transmission please?

Sure you can!

Not specifically about Spyders, but here, check this out ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viWuolNYGyI

Only do remember that while you can fix the clutch on these things fairly readily, that's not quite so true for the gearbox itself. :lecturef_smilie: And if you really wanted clutchless shifting, you shoulda got yourself an SE6 with it's flappy paddles & sexy quickshifting - it's effectively still the same manual gearbox, just shifts better & quicker! :ohyea:

I don't use the clutch when drag racing. But that's about the only time. You have to be definite and positive when shifting and you do need to blip the throttle off for an instant to unload the gear cluster. Timing is critical, but easily done. If done correctly, there won't be any issues. But I'm not sure I would recommend it on a regular basis.

It is possible but I wouldn't do it on 08 GS ( 5 speed manual ) when I owned one ..... There are devices that can make this almost like an SE trans. ...... google AIR Shift assist ...... good luck .... Mike

Same as above. Six of one, half dozen of the other. The manuals will go into gear without using the clutch. Not being a mechanic, I don't think that is good for the tranny in the long run. An occasional shift that way should do no harm.

I would recommend the SE version. Hopefully, if you buy the manual...there is pain and suffering built into the asking price. Manuals are hard to sell these days.

Of the seven Spyders I have owned, only the first was a manual. That was all that was available at the time I bought my 08. I have not regretted owning six semi autos. No difference in mileage or performance.

Man, I'd love to find and RT with a manual trans. - I'm not nearly as fond of the SE, but it was all I could find at the time.

But yeah, it shouldn't be a problem once you figure out the shift points/revs.

for the 998's the best shift point for all gears is 5500. Let it downshift on its own.
for the 1330's the best shift point for all gears is 3500. Let it downshift on its own.

I learned on a old Peterbilt with a 5 sp main and a 3 spd brownie; but I really loved those 10 spd Road Ranger trannies!

Take it for a spin and let us know how you get on.

Talking on Roadranger gearboxes. Ye ha.
My intro into the big boys was the 18-speed Roadranger with the splitter switch.
Took some time before it was semi auto in my head.

I guess if you are used to it and can match the revs..its possible.

Let us know how you get on.
