• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ipod touch charging problems

A bit more information

Just to close off this thread. I sent another email to BRP asking some additional questions regarding the old IPod connector with the module in the center and the new straight through connector, thinking that maybe the module had something to do with the on/off function.

Here is the response.

Mr. Rae,

The tests that were done to answer your questions were done on a new 2013 unit with a straight cord plug-in (the iPod cable currently sold by BRP for this function). Perhaps the older cord with the module in the middle acted differently, but not having one here, we could not test it.

your joking right? lol

I called in to ask a simple question about the new style trailer plug wiring and they basically told me to go to hell, lol. They said I can not call them for techical questions, the dealer would have to do that. I told them dealer was not helping me so they again told me to have the dealer call them.... lol.. Ok.. Now when Carlos was there it was different, very proactive...those were the days... lol.

Who'd you speak to?
My personal experience has been that Crystelle is very patient when dealing with us, and she DOES get things done!

No it was not Crystelle, I do not know how to reach her. I asked for technical assistance as I would for any product but I learned that they do not speak directly with owners and I was not offered any other avenue other than than go to my dealer.

The 2010 and 2011 RTs use the iPod cable with the small inline box. The 2012 RT uses the straight cable without the inline box. The 2012 RTs moved the box from the iPod cable into the radio module. Using the wrong iPod cable can effect the charging of the iPod. Just a thought.

Not dumb Bob.

My IPod charges right up wh hooked to the computer but dies in the Spyder even when hooked up with the correct 2012 cable (except when the RT is running).

I have sent another email to the BR group.... maybe they can shed some light on why this is occurring. My wife has an IPod Nano in her RT and it shuts down completely just like the Garmin GPS does. I'm thinking someone at BRP didn't think through the software needed for the latest iteration of the IPod carefully enough.

For what it is worth, I have a 2010. The iPod does not charge while the ignition key is off. Mine will go dead while sitting in the garage and recharge while riding. It also stays on after turning the key off. However, it does not keep playingbecause the same song will be queued when I start it again (the engine). On a long ride the iPod will recharge completely. If you want to charge it while the engine is off then use a USB charger/adapter in the power port on the left side of the trunk. I use mine to recharge my phone and tablet also. I think BRP could have done a better job on the functionality between iPod and dash. Only being able to change songs is just too quick and dirty a solution.

i am still using my old ipod with no issues..does the new ipod have a menu function?? you may have a function in the settings that tells the ipod to turn off when the power is turned off to it... i would think it has a box to check...just a suggestion

I may have not have got your question right but if you mean you are not able to change The Play list, Album, Artist, Song etc whilst riding this is how mine works

In the Audio menu for the cluster once I pod is selected you should be able to 1st select the category e.g Play list, Album etc
then once you leave the Audio with this category selected if you want to make changes e.g to move to another Play list, Album etc

Hold the right button in for a few seconds and it will scroll through play lists. Works like a charm...Thats the right button between the volume buttons - a short press will just move to the next song within the Play list or Album etc and a longer press will move to the next play list or Album and the songs contained within that Play list or Album will start playing
