• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ipod touch charging problems

When I traded in the old RT and bought my 2012 RT Limited I also upgraded my IPod to the new Touch 32 Gb so I would be able to expand the music library when riding.

During the good weather I rode every day and never noticed whether the IPod turned itself off. Now that the colder weather is here I am not riding for two or three days in a row and a couple of times I found the IPod was totally drained of power when I went to start the Spyder. It appears as though it is not powering down when I shut off the Spyder like the Garmin GPS does.

A few questions if someone knows the answers:

- Should I be turning the IPod on manually or should the device turn on when the Spyder starts?
- Should I select the music icon or just leave it alone? (This new IPod has a lot more choices of icons than the old one).
- Should I have to turn it off manually or is the IPod (or the Spyder) just not working right?

I am plugging in with the correct Aux connecting wire into the switched outlet on the right side of the rear compartment and all connections are solid.

No one at the dealership is much help on this and so far the folks at spydertechsupport haven't responded.

I have the same problem after they upgraded my radio to the 2012 model so I hope to hear of an answer. The dealers are useless when it comes to support so we have to figure it out in here, lol.

I have the I-pod touch 32 gb also but have not left in plugged in for very long without using it. I will give mine a try tomorrow to see if it is turning off or acts like yours does.
:dontknow:

The 2010 and 2011 RTs use the iPod cable with the small inline box. The 2012 RT uses the straight cable without the inline box. The 2012 RTs moved the box from the iPod cable into the radio module. Using the wrong iPod cable can effect the charging of the iPod. Just a thought.

I have the 2012 charge cable so its not the cable. It usually is dead after sitting 2 or more days as if it was still turned on even thought the screen is black.

battery is good, I can tell by how long it lasts when not on charge. Others have also noticed that after the 2012 update the Ipod goes dead when sitting for a few days (while still plugged into the bike).

I wasn't sure...
Just figured that I had to ask the dumb question... nojoke

Not dumb Bob.

My IPod charges right up when hooked to the computer but dies in the Spyder even when hooked up with the correct 2012 cable (except when the RT is running).

I have sent another email to the BRP group.... maybe they can shed some light on why this is occurring. My wife has an IPod Nano in her RT and it shuts down completely just like the Garmin GPS does. I'm thinking someone at BRP didn't think through the software needed for the latest iteration of the IPod carefully enough.

Do they function okay before the "lights go out"?
Perhaps a wire has been rubbed, and is shorting out somewhere...

Everything works fine. I was playing with sequencing by that, to be sure the unit is completely off when parked and it then seems to be ok, but after then the next run it does the same thing. Definiantely something in the programing.

I finally gave up and went back to my IPod Classic with the old click wheel selector. It works fine so I'm thinking my supposition about software may be correct.

CAN AM if you monitor this site please respond to my email!

No joke...
BRP has a lot of folks who are interested in what goes on in here...
But you'll never see or hear them on an open forum; they do their best work behind the scenes.
I'd suggest calling BRP and registering your issue with them; "the squeaky wheel gets the grease... "
Do you need their contact numbers??

Bob is correct. I got a call from Chrystelle LaChance at BRP about a week after I posted about a front end wobble problem with the Spyder last year. I was quite surprised at the contact. She helped get the problem solved quickly.

I do have all the contact numbers at Valcourt and will be following up next week when I assume they will all be back in the office.

My 2012 RT llimited had different issue.
Forgot to unplug Ipod for several days. Spyder battery drained and would not start. Had to recahrge it.
You may be blessed if system is not being drained. Ipod should work and start charging when spyder is runnning.
I would consider an imporvment over my issue.

After reading how finicky the battery of the spyder is I always unplug the cable/ipod when I get home from a ride. Haven't had any problems that way.

Quick response from BRP on this issue

When I asked if they monitor the site I received a response this morning. Maybe the prod worked.

Not what I wanted to hear but it looks like this deal is not as interactive as I thought.
