iPOD question

My brother connected his iPOD to my 2014 Spyder and set up the dash to operate it --- worked great! Question is: what model/s iPOD should I be looking at that will just plug into the existing cables and work from the drivers position? Unit will live in the rear trunk.

Hope my question is in the correct area of the Forum.

if you will RTFM( Read the Manual) it actually tells you in there. I can't remember off the top of my head all of the ones it is copmpatible with.

Several will work, if they have the old Apple plug, i use a ipod touch 3rd generation and it works great. The maual really doe's not explain everything about Apple Devices.

We use the ipod nano 6th gen. Its not much bigger than a book of matches, velcro's easily to the wall of the trunk near the connector and interfaces with the bike controls very well. They are available used for very reasonable prices.

Most Ipods work, the ones that have the little connect...called lighting connect... you can get a connect that goes from the Spyder wire for Ipods to the Ipod..cost around $12

I only paid about $40 for the 6th gen ipod nano. No additional adaptors needed.

They have the 30 pin connector that mates up to BRP's cable...

I'm not an Apple person - know little if anything about their products. Have an Ipad Mini (Think that is what it is called) don't use it much - purchased to connect to my Roland BK9 (think music) keyboard.

I just want to K.I.S.S. (you know; Keep It Simple, Stupid) as much as possible - don't need a lot of features for a device that will live in the rear truck and be accessed by the driver position.

Never really thought about Apple information in the manual - plus bike is in the shop to fix about 6-7 problems (1,200 miles on it, I think) and manual not conveniently available right now.

The 6th Gen Nano should work just fine... Are you sure that you're getting that plug firmly connected to the bike? I've noticed that if things aren't tight; nothing useful happens! :shocked:

I think your Ipad mini should work if you want to try that.

Digital versions of the owners manual are available on the BRP wed site. You can save it your computer or other devices. Often more convenient to read then getting out the paper one.

On any Apple device when you plug it into a cable, there is a sensing circuit for charging rates and capabilities.

If your Apple device pops up a screen that says not compatible, then it is having some issue sensing the data lines on the connector for what type of charger it is connected to.

Now things to do if you see this is:
1) Make sure your Apple device is up to date with the latest Apple release of code. You will need iTunes on your PC to update it.
2) Try fully powering the unit down and back up.
3) If you still get that error, power the unit down, then plug it in with your Spyder's key turned on. When you plug it in it should power back up. If not power it up. See if you still get that error screen.

If you do still get this error screen then I would see a dealer as you may have a bad cable, or a harness problem from the jack in the trunk to the radio. There have been a few reported bad iPod cables.
