IPod gen 5 question

I have a new 5th gen iPod i bought for use with the spyder. It has the new lightning connection. I was able to get the iPod to work through the headphone connection. In order to get it to work through the lightning connection, I would have to buy the 30 pin adapter. What would be the advantage(s) of this connection? I'm guessing I would be able to advance between songs/playlists any others?? Thanks, Dale

All Apple handheld products from here on will have the 8 Pin plug. Unless you have a previous generation of phone, pod, or pad you will need the adapter. It should function the same as the 30.

If the iPod is hooked through the audio cable, you cannot control the song or playlist via the multifunction control on the handlebar. This function works with the old cable, but I'm not sure about doing so with the adapter.

Yes, if you purchase the adapter it will work with all the previous (limited) functionality.

I bought two different adapters online that didn't work since the audio is not coming out from thous adapters because they don't not have the Apple encryption chip.

The one that function correctly is the one you can purchased from apple for $30.
