• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Intermittent Cruise Control

Peace!

So I've now got nearly 3000 miles on my 2012 RT (which I bought late last Fall) and I've thoroughly enjoyed it, especially on bitterly-cold winter days because (a) no bugs, (b) minimal traffic, and (c) see a and b. If the roads are dry, even if there's snow piled up on the sides, it's a great riding day for me.

Problem is, about two weeks ago, my electronic cruise control started acting up:

I'd press down on the switch to set it and the display would change to "SET" but just as soon as I let go of the switch, it would return to "ON" and wouldn't hold.

I'd try several times in a row and get the same result.

I tried turning the unit off and trying to set it again but got the same thing.

I tried pulling the switch up to resume but that didn't work either.

If I turn the unit off for a time, when I turn it on again, it might work just fine. Or not.

I thought that the cold might be affecting the control unit but then I'd expect the failures to be consistent with outside and riding temperatures. It can't be duration because it will go poopy on me after ten minutes of riding or three hours or whatever.

Thought maybe the switch itself got dirty contacts or something but that all appears to be completely enclosed and weather-proof so I'd assume it's also dust-proof.

Has anyone else had this happen and, more importantly, has anyone figured out a cure?

I use my cruise a LOT when highway riding and I'm sure missing it.

Whatchathink, folks?

It could be in the switch (usual cause) wiring, or an electronic module. There is no relay, it is controlled by logic, via the CANBus. It would be best to visit your dealer and let them troubleshoot it through BUDS.

in the meantime until you can get to the dealer , touch the brake when it happens and try again, I had a similar problem on my 2010 RTS and after a couple times of doing that it went away before i could get to the dealer and never came back

rpms need to be over 3500 for the cruise to set and hold if they fall below that it will disengage.learned from experience on my end.oh and i have also hit bumps that will disengage the c/c.

Here is my wild guess...the foot brake is very sensitive, so maybe your foot is unintentionally touching the pedal and disengaging the cruise.

Any of the ways to un-set the cruise might be the first places to check. Look in your manual and see what deactivates the cruise. Obviously the brake and clutch, if you have one. The manual should give you the others.

I'll have the dealer check it out and provide the mech with a copy of your response so it might give him a good headstart. Thanks!

Interesting. I'll try to get into the brake linkage to see if it's dirty enough to cause the problem. Thanks! Hadn't thought of that. No clutch as it's the SE5.

Yah, I don't try to set it unless I'm going well over 3500, although the owners manual indicated anything over, what, 30mph? But, in this case, I'm typically cruising at about 50-60mph so the rpm shouldn't be an issue. But thank you!

Ah! I will absolutely try that. Touching the brake was counter-intuitive so I didn't even think of it. Thanks much!

My 2012 RT had the exact same problem and I found the brake pedal to be the problem. A little lub made the problem go away.

I'll lube the brake linkage this evening. Makes sense that the brake's the issue, judging from yours and the other posts. Thanks for the recommendation!

Had the same problem recently. Took it to the dealer and they could not reproduce it. Have not had the problem since.:dontknow:
