• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Input Please on seat Gas "Door"

If your replacement seat has a gas "door" please let me know the pros and cons. I am going to replace my stock seat and one of the complaints on the stock seat is that either my passenger or my "luggage" has to come off when I fuel...Thinking the door (like the Corbin has available) would be the answer...
Thanks for your input...:chat:

I really love the "gas door" on my corbin seat. The only complaint that I have is in cases where you do lift the seat, you have to be awfully careful not to scratch the paint on your spyder when lowering the seat. The door latch can, if you're not careful, come down on the pastic.

Is that still a problem if you open the door before lowering the seat? I read somewhere on this forum that if the door was open while lowering the seat it wouldn't be a problem but since I don't have a Corbin seat (yet) I cannot prove it.

The fuel door is one of the best things about the Corbin seat, I would have wore my seat out on the last two trips on the RT if I had to lift my seat at every stop. :D

I really have no idea in as much that I normally don't open the "gas door" if I'm looking underneath say for my tool kit, fuses, etc. Consequently, when I go to close my seat, I wouldn't have had the gas door open. The way I have solved the problem is that I'm simply careful when I go to close the seat. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear when I said there was a problem, and for that I apologize. Accuracy is a necessary component to communication. I meant to say that there is a "POTENTIAL" problem if you are not careful in closing your seat.

...and the Corbin seat has now been moved to the top of the "Gottahave" list... (The Missus is gonna kill me for sure!)

Maybe that is something that we should add to our BRP "Wish list"... opening compartment on the seat.

I was talking to Mickey Fisher on his stop here. Said that because of removing his gear from the back seat, a simple fuel up would taking him 20 minutes... not including the time talking to :spyder2: watchers.

The Corbin seat with the gas door is very convenient. I find I lift my seat once a year now--to attach the bettery tender and then remove the battery tender.

Russel Day Long seat with Gas Door: NOT

Wow went from being super excited and ordering a production date for my Russel Day Long WITH gas door to just now cxl order. When I talked to the owner on Tuesday he assured me they could/would do it. Then Doug, Spyderlover, indicated they had done it a couple times with LESS than desirable results...so I sent off email to DayLong and just got a call...Yes, they would do the gas door for me BUT the 2 they have done the corners have broken off...eeeeekkkkk not going to work for me...Reallllly appreciate their honesty. But having a gas door is a priority for me....soooo guess I will be looking seriously at the Corbin/Lamont cut WITH gas door.
Next ?...since Corbin does their own "saddle trees/pans" is there a market for the stock seat? Also I have an after market Utopia backrest...will that go on the new Corbin or again someplace to recoup some of my investment? Thanks for all your help.
Again Spyderlovers is "saving" me from errors in choices...thank you thank you. :ohyea:

I donated my passenger backrest to a member of this forum. Henning, is his name I think. He is from Norway, a disabled spyder ryder and asked if he could have in order to assist him in his ride. I was more than happy to accommodate. As far as the rest of the seat? It was out on the curb and gone before the sun came up.

My only regret is that I ordered the Corbin seat with my Spyder. Had I ordered from Corbin they would have tricked it out for me. I did get the spyder stitching, but could have had stitiched in white and piping done in white to match the Limited. Other than that we love the saddle and back rest.

Murphy's seat

I'm sure someone would be happy to buy both seats. I just recieved my new Utopia last week. I'm always afraid one of my two cats is going to scratch the cover.
I was pleased to meet you at spyderfest and enjoyed your adventures to and from on spyder lovers.

But she'll love you once she gets to try it out! :2thumbs:

And we both agree with everyone who loves their Corbin's
especially the fuel door!!! :firstplace:

MurphyBrown, a Big Three Thumbs up on the fuel door :2thumbs::thumbup:
Now, my wife doesn't have to get up each time we stop for fuel.
I only see pros on the door. The only con would be non-locking allows easier theft of fuel, IF they know how to find it. Not a big concern to me at all and the pros, pros, pros outweigh that concern.

With regard to the stock seat, there is always a market for those due to damage, accident, or even a custom seat builder who wants the pan to put their custom spin on. I think Ultimate Seats does (or did) that when they started out on the RS/GS seats. Ultimate reps said they were going to release RT seats soon, but I don't know when. So I am sure they will be searching the "for sale" here and also on Ebay to pick up some seat pans until they get some stock built up with core returns.

I have the Corbin and love it. I highly recommend. :firstplace:
