• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The idiot season is beginning here and whenever I see a vehicle stopped on a side street or parking lot exit, I expect them to pull out. Most aren't paying attention and have a cell phone in their ear. I wish they had a law here and enforced it but don't, not yet and how many injuries and deaths have to happen before they do? My brother in CT got a ticket for answering his phone and it cost him $125.00. Second offense is $250.00 and now does what I do. I turn it off and check it when I get to where I'm going when in my truck. On the :spyder2: its in the Frunk most of the time.

Spring Thunder Beach begins May 2nd til the 6th and with more idiots out and about I do hope its a safe TB. I had a close call Monday night and was able to brake and change lanes. The idiot accelerated when he saw me with baseball eyes. Bikers have been coming in since last Saturday to spend the week here.

Nothing new, Drivers cut off Motorcycles, Spyders and yes cars. You just notice it more because when your out in the open it becomes more personal and in your face!
Can anyone honestly say they never inadvertently cut off another vehicle?:dontknow:
I know i have been guilty of that a few times!!

:agree: and guilty as charged, too!
:opps:

:agree: me also guilty of this. but as a motorcycle rider i do not cut off other bikers as i know of the dangers i give them the space they deserve.

Funny how that works, eh? I began noticing motorcyclists ALL THE TIME once I started riding, whereas before I was nowhere near as observant. Now, I always give them their proper space and attention whenever I'm in my car.

Kinda makes me wish we could teach all drivers how to ride, just so they could see it from our perspective.

that would be nice for all. they should make ev1 that don't have a motorcycle endorsement get on a motorcycle simulator at the dmv and take a 30min driving test interacting with bikes/cars when they renew there license just to give us all a refresher course that theres more than 1 type of vechicle on the road and then maybe there won't be so many accidents involving bike/cars.

No close calls so far this season--but I always drive with the idea that the other guy is out to get me or that they may do something stupid--so have that kind of bult in to my driving.

I am also guilty of doing a "stupid" once in a while--but am trying to do better.

:agree: I was not sure I was going to make it to Spyderfest. 5 miles from home on I-39 I was riding behind and to the left of 18 wheelers when I heard tires on the rummble stip to my left. Some guy and his wife where trying to pass me on the shoulder :gaah:. I coudn't speed up or go right and If I slowed down he would not be able to drop back behind me. Layed on the horn and held on. I was not 3 feet from the wife and she never even looked over. The driver heard the rummble strips and slowly slipped back behind me. Once I was able I put a few miles between us.

not looking

Most of the people that pull out in front of a cycle do it because they don't see you.......they aren't consciously looking for cycles , they're looking for cars and cycles don't register.

Like mentioned above....I treat every other vehicle out there as a threat , no matter how many wheels it has.

Idiots like that make me want a TRAIN HORN!!!!!! I WILL get an airhorn and soon as I want to go to the Durango meet and am sure I will need some form of ATTENTION GETTER!!! Damn fools on their phones, reading the map or a book, working on the computer, puttin on the make up and drinking coffee are just a FEW of the distracions that are seen by other drivers out on the road. Talk to some of the Big rig drivers,. They have a boat load of "sightings" of ppl doing strange and unusual things in cars etc. The truck drivers should get together and write a book on " things you SHOULD'NT be doing while driveing a vehicle" !!! I'd buy it!

:agree: with you and am also guilty but have also learned from my mistakes. I was fortunate that I have not hurt anyone and more aware of the people around me and what I can do to avoid an incident with someone who is not paying attention to what they are doing while driving.

Lights at night

A couple times I have had to do a double take, I noticed the bikes lights can be confusing if you are not paying close attention. I think having two lights fairly close together may make people think you are a car that is more distant.

One time I was in a line of 5 motorcycles. Four of us were together, and the fifth was not with our group. Our group of four made a right turn. The driver on the intersecting street had a stop sign. When four of us turned right, she assumed the fifth was with us. She pulled right out in front of the last bike, and he hit her square in the front quarter panel, and went over her car. Compound fracture to the femur, and probably some other injuries.

I agree with the sentiment, always assume the drivers can do anything.

BTW, is anyone else's pet-peeve cars that stop at cross street intersections, and just keep creeping out. I want to yell, "this is going to make me go slower, not faster."

I am new to the board, but sometime I will post my accident story (no major damage to my person, so it is kind of funny now).

I was in our sedan with my wife the other day, stopped in the right hand turning lane waiting for a break in traffic.

I was waiting for the last car to go by when the car slowed and turned right so I eased my foot off the brake and had to stop quickly again so the car moved about a foot or so... still within my lane and side of the intersection.

The reason?

The kid on the bike that was tailgating the car that turned...He was on the left side near the double yellow... There was no way for me to see him behind that car. If I was in my truck, I probably would have.

What did he do as he rode by? Shook his head back and forth like he was scolding me.\

Ironically, we were going to pick up my spyder from it's inspection at the dealer and I was wearing my neon yellow olympia jacket... I don't think he noticed. I was hoping he was also going to the dealer as I was going to ask him about the whole incident and explain why I didn't see him.

So... Moral of the story is... A lot of times it is the four wheeled driver, but there are times that the motorcyclist is also clearly at blame. If that kid had allowed another 20 feet of clearance instead of tailgating, I would have seen him sooner.

:agree:
We always seem as if we want to beat up on the cages, when there's no doubt that putting a twistgrip in the hands of some fools will always bring out the worst in them too! :gaah:

Since I became a big bad biker :joke:, I find myself running interference and protecting bikers when I'm in my car. And yes, I notice the idiots a whole lot more.
