There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I think, I screwed up. Meguiar's Hot Wheels Cleaner..

Apparently; even though I have been using this cleaner for a couple of years on my other vehicles' wheels, not a good idea on the Spyder's wheels. Oh! The wheels it cleans fine. However; it appears by using it, I have ruined the finish on most of my non-black suspension components inside the wheel. And, the tie rods don't quite glisten as they did.

I screwed up.

What's in the Mequires cleaner? I wonder if some of these products are acid based as I saw one today made by Turtle Wax that stated on the bottle "acid free" or something to that effect.

In my opinion, and that shared by many auto restorers, there is nothing as nasty as wheel cleaners. They are some of the harshest chemicals around. Very corrosive, especially to zinc plating. Best best for wheels is mild soap and water and some judicious elbow grease. Sorry you had to find out the hard way.

I tend to use either nanowax or Waxing Frenzy for the whole bike...both can be used on paint, vinyl, plastic, glass, etc...

Waxing Frenzy is by far the best product I have ever used...try a melting point of over 1200 degrees vs. the 135 degrees for standard carnuba wax.

The stuff is amazing and it polishes up any and everything you put it on...

Yes, wheel cleaner is pretty nasty. Most say to leave it on for less than 30 seconds before you wash it off. There's a reason for that I guess.

I use Mr. Clean magic erasers on the wheels on all my toys, works good.

That's a neat choice...they probably do work quite well. I guess you just wet them a bit and go...I don't believe they leave anything dangerous on the bike to worry about...they clean everything else quite well...

I have some wipes for the black walls and I also use the wipe on the rims...seems to clean pretty well and without any issues...can also use the nano or frenzy...they leave a nice shine...

I got hooked on Zaino car products years ago. They leave an awesome shine on anything. A little time consumiing with the first application, but it lasts quite a while. www.zainobros.com

Try a little mix of Simple Green, 50/50 with water and reclean all of the parts. It should remove any film/residue that was left from the wheel cleaners. I did the same thing to my quad and it brought the color/shine back

Yup, that's what I do. And finish with a coat of black wax. It desn't shine but it does make the tire look spiffy black.

Greg, you might try this...

Just a thought for restoration of the flat finish on your suspension parts. You might try to look for a spray cleaner that is sold at most Harley dealers. It promises to restore the original look of the black wrinkle finish that you find on most Harley motors. I bet it would bring back the look you want on those parts as well. I don,t know what it is called but they should. Just a thought, ride safe!

Don't feel bad.

I found better convex mirrors to affix to my mirrors. In removing the old ones I used a razor to remove the glued on pad. Scratched the :cus: out of the mirror :gaah:

S100 Engine Brightener good stuff used in on my H-D all of them for years all there products work very well :doorag:

Thanks everyone! You Live, and 'Hopefully' Learn! How was I, or anyone else, to know? You can bet, I won't be using it on any of my vehicle wheels anymore. I always use a rubber coated wheel brush as well, along with any cleaner.

I'll try some of the solutions a few of you mentioned. And, certainly the Simple Green / water mixture.

The reason for that is the coating on the arms is not paint and has no cover coat.I think in guns it is called Parkerizing.Someone here knows but cleaners will fade and remove it after a time.
