• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Alaska is rockin' and rollin' this morning!
They've had a series of quakes pop up.
Keep them all in your prayers!

Shake and Bake

Had a 4.4 just across the river @ Fort Mac Kenzie. Smaller after shocks........ So far.

Hang in there AK

It's all over..!!

we are cracking up like an egg..!! Coming from Peru, earthquakes are oh to common. I have come to believe the earth has to stretch from time to time. I also believe the sudden changes in temps (not global warming :cus:) has something to do with them. Alaska is in a heat wave and prone to quakes..unfortunately they are sudden deadly and there is no place to run to... Nothing come of them more than a fallen picture frame..!!

And the shaking STILL hasn't stopped! :roflblack:

Quakes

I was in a 5.5 quake once and the only time I remember being more terrified was on the eve of my wedding.

Spydercowboy and I lived in Hollister, CA during the "Loma Prieta" quake back in 1989 -- it only lasted 15 seconds, but it was 7.2! nojokeKnocked me off my feet ... literally, I was on my way to a doorway in the kitchen of our house when I found myself on my knees! :yikes:Curiously, this was the only quake I had been in that I didn't hear first (I grew up 30 miles south of San Francisco) .... it started as a gentle rocking motion and then some MONSTROUS pitches up / down / side to side. No damage to the house itself, but our 55 gallon aquarium did not fare well at all and dumped it's contents on the living room carpet as it shattered. Without power, we decided to just cut the soggy carpet up and remove it before loosing the sub-floor underneath. When Larry (aka spydercowboy) made the first cut and pealed back the carpet / pad ... "well, I'll be :cus: .... we have hardwood floors under this stuff and they look brand new!"

So, quakes can be both devastating and yield positives (all at the same time) ... hoping the AK quakes are minor and subside:pray:

Be safe ... Ann

I'm glad to hear that you found some good news in the middle of a bad situation!
That quake was THAT long ago now; geez...

Easter Sunday 2010 - 7.2 was the closest "big one" personally encountered

But felt all of these to one degree or another. In fact, the Landers quake set off a music box that played "Happy Days Are Here Again"......was a bit ironic!

Bob ... yes, indeed it was. :D Easy for me to remember as spydercowboy and I got married and left CA the following year (not because of earthquakes ... got transferred to TX).

Here's an interesting place to look up this sort of thing..

Thanks for posting. The site above is the one I have on my favorites, so that I can go to it for information.

What concerned me today was the fact that in a period of less than 24 hours there were three quakes that you could feel and the house rattled and shook. All were under 5. One at 4.7, one at 4. and another at 3.7. Quakes of that magnitude generally do not do any damage. We just "go for a ride". The three were also in the Cook Inlet area. Epicenter 19 miles and 8 miles from my area for two of them. Also concerning me was the fact that there have now been about 10 of them, all along the fault (duh) between Seattle and AK. Normally they cluster and do not appear in a specific line.

So far, so good. They say little ones are good because they relieve pressure on the plate tectonics.

I was here for a 7. something a few years back that epicentered around Denali Park. It tore up roads and cut them in half around Mentasta. The house really shook hard for almost a minute and there was a similar aftershock. No damage for us--but stuff got re-arranged a little bit.

What is most scarry about a big quake is that you are there, and there is nothing you can do about it other than wait and watch.

It now looks like we are undergoing "the usual".

The refrigerator door stayed closed and the cubes remained in the tray. :roflblack::roflblack:

There may have been some avalanches in the high country--but not on my doorstep.
