I Got a Thumbs down Yesterday!

Two different Guys on Harleys came up to me & asked me to join the Hannibal American Legoin riders. It's not the bike no matter what brand, it's the person on it. Had a lady want to sit on the RT while waiting for an escort ride to start. Her husband, riding a Harley, Tried to give her to me.:yikes:

Reading this thread, and this is exactly what I was thinking - and you posted it. No, it doesn't matter what kind of bike it is, it's the person riding it. Bruiser's riding club consists mostly of Harleys, a Victory, and a couple of other 'brands'. Then, there's us - two Spyders and we get no hard time from any of them. Well, they do respect their elders!! nojoke

I fly four flags on the back of my 'Big Red' and get pretty decent responses... most of the time. As for the clown down in Gulf Shores, just remember that 'you can't fix stupid'.

"Some people can't stand that the Spyder is not the back of the pack slow trike." You really hit on something with that statement. I, too, think that is the mentality of some riders. I rode with a group recently and one of the riders (Harley) asked me, in front of the group, 'Will you have a problem keeping up?" I laughed and said "You'll see."

That reminds me of.....

I have been riding for 56 years and for about 40 or so of them I have used a helmet
because I value my head...
I live in California, years ago they passed the helmet law .... needless to say there were
all kinds of protests mostly by HARLEY riders (I owned an FXRD) at the time, well some
mental midget went to the big protest ralley at the state capital in Sacramento he gt up on stage and pulled out a gun and said if I got to use a helmet when I ride I would rather be dead
then he blew a big hole in his head....boy I guess he showed us...

I was in the middle of my 4th cross country journey and out in the middle of nowhere. Around a curve came a train going in the opposite direction, the engineer and I made eye contact and both of us at the same time stuck out a big thumbs up to each other. He then blew the train horn. That encounter made my whole day. I enjoy waving to everyone, no matter what they're riding. If they don't wave back, it doesn't matter, I'm still having fun.

So he asks me to come over just in case she does something crazy when he breaks up with her. Well i get to his house and the Wacko Blond has a gun to her head, And is screaming I'm gonna kill myself! So i try to calm her down, Then she says to me; If you come one step closer ill kill myself,

And your next.:roflblack:

But was she a bottle blonde....and Wacko by choice??? :yikes:

Two comments...

1) Just the other day, two Harleys came up behind me at a light. One pulled along side and commented that my Red RT-S was beautiful, and must ride sweet. I couldn't help but agree with him!

2) As for the Hater with the thumbs down: Joke 'em if they can't take a f*** !!!

I find most people like that are posers anyway. They haven't figured out it's not what you ride, it's that you ride.

Idiots.

Got the give the idiot points for commitment and passion...short lived but commitment just the same.....

I have been on two wheels for almost 40 years and three wheels since '09 and I am a member of a Motorcycle Club. I have found that there are two kinds of motorcyclists. There are those who love motorcycles and those that ride them irregardless of the size, Brand, size or type of the motor or country of manufacture. They love to go to motorcycle events of any brand or culture and will go out of their way to talk motorcycles with anyone. They are true "Bikers". Then there are those who don't have much knowledge of just about anything, are not open to change and because of this are pretty unhappy frustrated folks who just are searching for something that they already have but don't realize it yet. They call them selves "Bikers" but in my opinion don't even begin to understand what it is to be part of the community. They feel threatened by just about anything that may change their opinions if they had to think. They go on about the "Old" days and the way "we" did it then when they are only in their twenties! Frankly they and their opinions just don't matter. Ride your own ride, and ride free!

Just thought I'd share this- I copied it from Teddys Adventures Thread from 6/15/2011

6/15/11*67F*Teddy is do'n ok*1st Negative Feedback

Wow, how our local weather here is changing. We've been in the high 80's & 90's for a lil while now, which is much warmer than average for our area. Over night lows were in the mid 70's, but not now. Got into the 50's last night:thumbup: & suppose to start having some showers/storms moving thru for the next few daysnojoke

As for Teddy, he's do'n as good as can be expected, tho he is showing more signs of pain & :yikes: discomfort now that he's gone thru his Major pain meds:joke: & is back on his regular pain medicine. He only got the GOOD STUFF for 2 daysnojoke I know last night, he kept waking me up licking his sore knee:( which worries me, cause it's not much for him to go from licking it to biting at it :lecturef_smilie: & if he starts that, he'll have to wear the dreaded E-Collar :yikes: & we don't want that :lecturef_smilie: Took him out Ryding a lot :2thumbs: the last couple of days, as it seems to help keep his mind off of his sore lil knee:thumbup: Its amazing, how the :spyder2: along with a cute lil dog Ryde'n shotgun brings down ppls defenses & total strangers will come up to you & treat you like family. Was Ryde'n thru a new development last night and met a wonderful family out in their driveway. Mom & Dad had a cute lil PomaPoo that looked just like a baby Ewok :p who just had a similar surgery as Teddy just about 4 weeks ago. She's now walking on all 4  & see'n her helped give me some hope:2thumbs: for TEDDYS recovery. The dad loved the :spyder2: & the Mom was taken with Teddy. They even had their 2 kids come out to look T the :spyder2: & Teddy, even brought out a bowl of water for Teddy:thumbup: Was funny, the mom wanted pics of Teddy with their lil Ewok, both wearing their doggles (she had pink) & the Dad ended up having to give the digital camera to their 10yo so she could figure out how to take the pic :D ya gotta love kids, their just so dang tech. savvy now a days :2thumbs: Great family, their son really liked the :spyder2::thumbup: We talked about Teddys rehab & they even gave me their instructions from their vet about doing therapy on their dogs leg, stretching and excercises:thumbup: TEDDYS vet didn't give us any of that:( and when I asked about rehab, she just stated that we need to get him using it as soon as possible, but that was all:lecturef_smilie: So I thank them for giving me these instructions  as I figure it can't hurt to try and work with him a little:thumbup:

On another topic, I got my 1st negative :yikes: reaction from a total stranger yesterday as I was riding home from work:dontknow: Not sure if I did something, or the lady just didn't like TEDDYS Red :spyder2:, but she made sure to make it clear to me that she didn't like it:mad: I was on I75 S in Ohio & she had come onto the highway from an on-ramp up ahead. I guess she saw me in her mirror, cause by the time I got along side of her in the fast lane, I looked over and she was holding her arm up to the drivers window giving me a BIG THUMBS DOWN nojoke:mad: I was actually a little :yikes: shocked & had to close my mouth as my jaw dropped at seeing her reaction:yikes: No clue why:dontknow: but in over a year now, this was the first time anything like that has happened:( I just figure, you can't please them all:chill: Then again, maybe she's seen us before while Teddy was Ryding, and she was giving me the BIG THUMBS DOWN sign cause he wasn't with me:dontknow: No clue, but at least that I could understand:D

Anyways, VERY  EXCITED to be leaving in the morning:thumbup: for Lamonts Bar-B-Q :2thumbs: Can't wait to meet you all & for you guys to meet Teddy:p Tho he's not gonna be his hyper lil self :( it's still gonna be a Great Time with Great People:firstplace:

Everyone, Ryde safe & arrive alive :2thumbs: See you soon:yes:

Thumbs Down vs Thumbs Up

I'm just as guilty as everyone else when it comes to this but it seems like we ALWAYS remember those one or two fools who exhibit a negative, or questionable, attitude towards us......but what about the hundreds and hundreds of thumbs up, smiles and waves we get from the rest of the population? Certainly they should carry more weight in our thinking than the fools that you can count on one finger (the same finger over & over works for me.)

Remember all these things when some jerk is rude....... I think about the jerks like that and how insecure they must be to have to validate their life and image based on wholesale products created for profit? Ifind it the same as thinking the hot 18 year old waitress really likes you because she has been flirting all night!!! Yeah right it’s all about the tips!

That being said I try and remember these things and go out of my way when I see other riders on anything "less typical" I showsome interest ask some questions and the response is always overwhelming. I like to reinforce people that ride on just that“hey your riding I'm riding aren’t we lucky to be riding!" If you’re riding and your mind is always focusing on what others do or do not have then you in fact have missed the entire point of riding itself.

:agree: Except the part about the 18 year old waitress, They do like me, and not because of the [big] tips'
They love me for my Dynamic personality. ;) ;)

the haters

I dont know if its the same in America but here in australia the most one-eyed riders i have come across are the new (mid-life crisis ) guys, who have ridden for a year and anything that aint a harley is sh#t, instant hells angels just add harley-daivdson .
New bike new leather jeans new jacket and a whole new bad boy attitude, i just look and laugh my first wife could have cleaned em all up :roflblack:

cheers mick

It's kind of sad, the attitudes I see when I'm on the road. I've been riding since 1954, and someplace in there realized that anybody or anything can beg, borrow or steal a motorcycle. Thinking that WHAT you ride is important is almost like thinking that what you clean up with after a dump is important. If it does the job for you, that's important, if it doesn't, try something else. There are many people who can't get it through their scalps, much less their skulls, that it doesn't matter what you ride, it's that you ride.

rant on hold,

john
