I Got a Thumbs down Yesterday!

I took advantage of a beautiful day for a ride yesterday. The hurricane in the Gulf had the winds coming in off the ocean so it stayed nice and cool. I was cruising along, listening to some Jimmy Buffett music when all of a sudden an approaching biker sticks out his arm and gives me a prompt thumbs down.

He was on a Harley so I don't know if his problem was with the bike or with my patriotic nose art. Either way, I realized he's not the brightest light on the porch. He was on two wheels wearing shorts, no shoes, no shirt, no gloves, helmet or protective eyewear.

I guess you can't put much stock in somebody's opinion when they have such a low opinion of their body and its protection :lecturef_smilie:

I continued enjoying my ride and the ocean and ended up with some good barbecue.

Someone that'll go to that much effort to be a jerk doesn't count for much!

Good on ya for not letting it affect your day!

I have a riding buddy who often says, "There are many in this country who have served, fought and died to protect the freedom of all to express their stupidity." Guess that Harley rider who gave you a thumbs down was a prime example of those we served to protect.

BTW I admire the "nose art " on your Spyder:thumbup:.

Each to his own, don't let it bother you, I'm too long in the tooth to care what people think or call me.

Thumb up, thumb down, middle finger :dontknow: no big deal. I'm happy in my own little world

:agree: with Harry...I never give my pleasures of life to another. Life is way to short to allow someone having a "bad day" to turn my day/moment into a downer....always my choice...I choose :clap::thumbup:....what do you choose?

Have a GREAT day...

You ran into a 'Hater' who hopes you care what he thinks about your Spyder. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the nose art.

There is a couple who loved their Spyder but traded it in for a Harley because of the flack they were getting from the group they rode with. Pretty sad.

Each person should ride something that they enjoy regardless of what anyone else thinks. Though we all enjoy others when they show appreciation for our ride, no one should ride something to make others happy.

My father and I were talking yesterday about a couple of men who try hard to let me know why they wouldn't buy a spyder. He said that when they say "I don't like it because.....bla bla", you say "I'm glad you don't, because that made more available for me to choose from."

I love my dad. He's :firstplace:.

Funny last Sunday i was coming back from upstate NY, And as i was going South past the Picatinny Arsenal [NJ] I waved to a Spyder that was headed north, I was on my Tri Glide, He gave me a look like a deer stuck in the headlights, Guess he misunderstood my wave. Some times a wave is just a wave and not to be analyzed.:dontknow:

The wave

3 of us went on a nice 250 mile or so ride yesterday. My Spyder, a Triumph speed triple crotch rocket and a HD Softtail. The HD and I led different parts. When the HD was leading everybike returned the wave - whether it was Tim (HD) or one or all of us. When I led with the Big Red Bug, probably 1/2 did not wave back, which made me all the more determined to wave, even in the middle of a nice sharp turn or busy area. Had I thought of it, I would have had Tim do all the waving and see if they all returned the wave from him while he wasn't leading. We'll do that next time. Every raft on the Oconee River must have been rented yesterday, I've never seen the river so packed.
The Dad's response above is terrific, I'll never forget that. Final thought - when people ask if I like the Spyder I adopted the folowing "I was going to trike my RoadGlide, but the Spyder is a much better ride for both the pax and the rider." A guy with a new Harley TriGlide just turned and walked away yesterday and his wife smiled, big time. Must be a story in there somewhere.

Tuck

As someone else commented on another thread about haters, at least he was going in the opposite direction:yes:

I think Lamont attracted the biggest "SPYDER HATER" of all time on our trip out to Durango, CO for the owner's event. This guy was off the charts!

We should have video taped it....

Waves

Who cares.

What gives me the biggest charge are the reactions that come from kids. The little ones, that's all that matters. Because they are being real.

Don't matter to me if a guy on a Harley or Moped waves or not. Most of the time I wave anyway.

The kids make me :D and that beats any wave.

I wish you would have....

That's a very good point. The kids go nuts when they see it. You can see their eyes fill up with awe.

"The eyes says it all".......My new can am logo.

I agre. When I pull up to a light on my Spyder and a kid looks out the back of a minivan and starts waving to me and I wave back to him that just makes my day.

Yep. They are out there.

I wonder if we asked them if they would care what our opinion would be of "Their" ride, what their response would be? I'd venture a guess that they could give a rat's behind about what we would think of their ride, so maybe that would get the point across.

Then again, you just can't be subtle with some folks.

And in the end, I guess I could give less than a rat's behind what they think of my ride, so we would have that in common I guess. :roflblack:

Personally I like all types of bikes, trikes, and motorsports in general. I say if you personally enjoy what you ride, then the heck with the rest of em. Let it ruin their day and not yours!

The OP did a good job of enjoying the rest of their day. :2thumbs:
