• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I did the oil mod finally.

I set it up just like Lamont's first version, except for a couple of changes.

- I used the filter stone in the kobalt filter instead of removing it and piping it. However, I took my dremel to the filter stone at the bottom and cut 4 wide "V" slots at the bottom. This way the stone still mounts stock, and oil and vapor are allowed to bypass the filter element towards the bottom of the filter.

- I took filter foam (coarse) and packed it in a circle in the unit. This should catch more of the oil before it has a chance to escape out to the breather element, but time will tell.

All I know is no more oil in the airbox, and just in time for Gatlinburg.

One mistake though. I forgot to blow through it to make sure it was flowing...No time to remove the tupperware tonight and double check it. Pretty sure it is good to go.

WackyDan,

I have the kobalt filter. After an 800 mile trip there was no oil in the bowl. I made the mistake of not sealing the pull valve at the bottom. Found oil residue on the wire looms below the bowl. I have now used JB weld to seal the valve from inside the bowl.

Way ahead of you as I remembered your post I think.... I also was looking at that valve, thinking that without air pressure it would not seal. So I took 1.5" of 3/8 OD rubber fuel line, slipped it over of the barb, and put some black rtv to seal the other end. I haven't inspected it as of yet, but hope to pop the plastic tomorrow am or afternoon to double check it.

You might find it still leaks with the tube on it, ask Xpeschon. I soldered my valve shut and he put a line on his and later used a bolt and rubber washer to seal the bottle. The way it is made it can leak around the inner plunger.

I soldered mine shut and it works perfect:thumbup:

I'm real happy with my glass view - fuel filter - Uni foam mod hooked up to the air cleaner (ala stock confuration).

Pulled the panel off at Lamont's BBQ to show SpyderLovers that wanted to see it. That's the first time I've looked at it since I put it on. I have put a few hundred miles on since the mod change from the catch bowl.

No one would even be thinking about a mod if the stock setup worked properly. The only thing wrong with the stock setup is oil in the air box. Not good but not insurmountable (I thought).

I didn't like the foam in the hose approach (though it probably works just fine). I wanted to be able to monitor the situation without having to pull my airbox. The glass fuel filter gave me that ability.

It's working great as far as I can see. I'll pull the hose (or the airbox lid) one time just to verify. But it's pretty obvious from looking at the foam through the glass that it's doing exactly what I wanted it to do.

I'm pretty confident that there will be no oil in my airbox anymore.

Do tell when you check. I'm still getting blow by like Lamont had with his original catch bowl even though I put filter foam in there. My next try is to use the finer foam and not the coarse that I have in there now.

How dense is the foam in that fuel filter?
