How Many years of street riding experience do you have?

I started riding in 1966 on a Honda 305 SuperHawk. I have had only 10 bikes in this span of time of time. I tend to keep each bike for several thousand miles. Over this period of time I have driven over 500,000 miles without getting a ticket, and only one fender bender. The Spyder was the answer to continuing my riding experience. I am only 140 pounds and the 800 pound bikes were getting just a bit too much to want to lug around anymore. We got our first Spyder (SE5) in November 2008, kept it till Oct 2010, put 43,000 miles on it. The 2010 RT (SM5) came home in Oct 2010 and now has 20,000 miles.

I started with a Whizzer, too. Took a short hiatus to 4 wheels when I put an old Maytag kick start engine from a washing machine on my Irish Mail ... but traded it for a Cushman Eagle. Have been on two wheels ever since. Someplace between 55 and 60 years.

 No No NO!! Twenty five years is serious experience! :2thumbs: :firstplace: You're doing stuff on "Autopilot" that the Newbies will take years to figure out...
That's why hopefully those of us with some serious time under our belts can try to help out the newcomers... so that it another couple of decades they can return the favor...

:opps: I had thought about that kind of poll, but was really looking to see if the Roadsters were bringing fresh blood into our sport...
The guys who have been riding "Since Jesus wore short pants" weren't the primary focus of the poll; although we all owe them our grattitude for keeping things moving forward all of these years... :2thumbs: :firstplace:

I've been riding the street since 1969. So let me see, forteen times two, carry the six plus twelve since the new century and..... Hmmm... I guess I'm in the 20+ catagory!

This is my 1st Street ride! 1969 Kawasaki A7 Avenger 350cc 2 Stroke. Awesome ride! (Also my first street crash machine)

Wife and I learned how to ride at an MSF course in 2008, both started on Yamaha 1100s and moved up over the next four years to me on a Yamaha Venture and Pinkyjo on a Honda Goldwing. She is still on her Goldwing and bad knee made me a Spyder Ryder.

Hi Guys!
Sooooo... I think I'm trying to figure out if the Spyder Roadster is bringing new riders into our sport...Or is it a Lifestyle?? :dontknow:
How many of us are just getting started and how many of us have moved over from other motorcycles to these?
I've been gathering up street experience for a bit over thirty-five years, but rode the dirt since early childhood... Motors and handlebars just seem so right when they're put together!

When I got a driver's license at 16 I would ride a friend's Honda 50. He would ride his Honda 90. This went off and on for a couple of years. When we would vacation at the beach, a rental bike was used.
I got my first and new motorcycle, a 1981 Yamaha 400. That next year while visiting the dealer, they had a contest to win a 1982 Yamaha 650 Heritage Special. I filled in the last entry and dropped it onto the box. A couple of weeks later, I got a phone call letting me know I had won the bike. I thought it was a prank call.
I sold the 400 the next Spring. Rode the 650 for about 10 years till the generator went dead.

I've had that bike ever since. It has been sitting "dead" in the garage for over 20 years. Since I've had mobility issues, I've not had the desire to fix it and ride it. In the last several years, I've had issues with mountain bike ridding too. I sure miss that.

When I discovered the Spyders, I started doing research a year ago. Found out in January I wouldn't be having surgery on my right foot and the hunt was on!

So, off and on, I have less than a dozen years of motorcycle experience.

Did not start riding until I was 55. However that being said I definitely put the miles on the 2 wheeler. Had close to 90,000 under my belt which included a high female miler of the year award with the Harley chapter I was in. Had to stop riding due to back surgeries and limited range of mobility. Test drove a Spyder in 2009 at Sturgis, got home and bought the first one. You all know the bike....purple of course. Now I have my RT....purple on it of course. Will be putting lots of miss on her. Lots of trips planed...the good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise!

I had to reply to this one. I had the same type engine. People do not believe Maytag would have a engine like that. Off subject a little, A Ice Cream vender comes to a lot motorcyle events. She uses a 1935 Hit or Miss John Deer gas engine power her Ice Cream maker.

Now that would make an interesting topic.

Things I learned that day. (Short List)

1- Don't think you know what you don't know.
2- Don't try to keep up with your buddies when they
... A- Have been riding much longer
... B- Know the road well (especially if it is windy)
3- Find your limits slowly, not all at once
4- Macho can really HURT!
5- Wear protective clothing
6- Keep the rubber side down
