How many Spyders over 100,000 miles with original motor?

As I am approaching 93,000 miles on my Spyder I got to wondering how many people have seen over 100,000 miles on their Spyder with the original motor? Lamont told me at Spyderquest that I was one of the only ones he knows of with that many miles on the original motor, which kind of surprised me. He also told me I might want to think about looking up a low mile used motor so I would be ready when mine goes south. So please chime in if you have over 100,000 on your Spyder or know of someone with that many miles with the original motor.

Sorry Doc, I know you have over 200,000 on yours but with at least 3 motors! Just sayin.........

I congratulate you...you have a good one and have taken care of it....I'm impressed.....would love to get 100k out of my ST

WOW :yikes: Congrats, it took me 11 years to put that on my truck i had, can't imagine how long it would take to put that on my spyder.

Heres the :firstplace: trophy to you .

Hmmm, You know the dealer didnt disclose this information when i bought my spyder. Does BRP want to hide the fact that these motors wont last 100k miles?

I be with you whitetail. Been riding Wings and Valkyries which both have long mile lifetimes. 100K not much in this days market.

VALVE ADJUSTMENTS ? ? ?

I'm curious to know how many times you have had to have the VALVES adjusted ......NOT just looked at ....But actually adjusted, and at what mileages...Thanks ...Mike

How would they know that information? There are only a handful of Spyders that have reached 100,000 miles thus far. BRP doesn't track your mileage...they have no way of knowing when 100K clicks over. It is not like they ask us our mileage yearly.

High RPM

My guess... for what it's worth, I doubt you will ever see many very high
milage Spyders that have the 990 engine because of the higher RPM's
they operate at. I sold a GoldWing I had it was a GL1100 with 123K on it
the engine had never been down only a timing belt and normal service..
I bet is the new engine on the 2014 will be like that as well "I Hope"

When Maintenance is done, BUDS has got it all..

:congrats:As far as I know Walter on his second Spyder RS logged around 130K. The first one burned in front of his garage.

I finally had the valves checked at 53,000 miles and was told that they were well within spec. I was going to have the valves checked at around 12,000 miles, but my former dealer wanted $750 just to check them and then of course more $$$ if anything needed to be done. I anguished over whether to have them checked and after talking to some really experienced bikers who I really trusted with their opinions, I decided against spending almost or more than a $1000 with a dealer I did not trust. When I finally did have them checked it was about half what the former dealer had quoted me.

I am retired and don't have a large monthly income due to working in factories my whole life and many of them going belly up, while I was employed with them and not having enough time to be vested for retirement.....my only retirement was what I was able to put into a 401K plan with my last employer. I had people offering to pay me to leave before I was able to put my last employer out of business too.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::banghead::banghead:

BRP Rotax V2 990 engine have is red zone beginning at 9000 RPM. At 70 MPH, the engine RPM run around 5000 RPM and at normal speed, it's not a high RPM for me. With regular maintenance, my technician told me this engine could go over 200000 miles, but I never seen one with this milleage.

Jim, :congrats: on the upcoming milestone... I'm curious as to what will happen with your odometer display when it rolls over ... Do they have room for 100,000 plus miles on them? :dontknow:

Take lots of pictures of the event for us!

Congrats thats some great mileage!! If you could pull the info out of the computer in my bike I bet I have spent 50% of the 2500 miles I have at 6000 rpms plus...lol:shemademe_smilie:

VALVE ADJUSTMENT

....Any one else out there who has actually had to have the VALVES adjusted , could you please POST what mileage they were done at........This is a VERY VERY expensive procedure and if it is NOT necessary at 14,000 miles I think everyone here would like to know when would be a good average Mileage.....IMHO, .Mike

I can't believe that anyone would want you to leave any place! Congrats on the mileage. Come on out to Las Vegas for a visit and you'll be at 100,000 in no time.
