• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

High Temps...Limp Mode

I would call this ...REALLY lean....If it was on one of my bikes, I'd be changing jets and raising needles....View attachment 74815

That would be an interesting approach on a Spyder. :roflblack: I'm afraid you and I are just part dinosaur, my friend. Somewhere down the line the world has passed us by.

That is plenty lean, though. Is it still that way? BRP didn't do us any favors by making the fuel mapping and timing completely unadjustable, IMO. Lucky there wasn't any aluminum on a plug that lean. My first RT did that, then switched to fouling plugs with a new ECM. There has to be a better solution!

 That is not lean; that's too dang lean! :yikes:
H.G.
And I'm with you; Lower the e-clips one notch, and go up one size on the mains...

This is the issue I just had before I took my bike for the 600 mile service.
My dealer said this IS a BRP known issue and there needs to be a software update to keep the bike from saying the temp is too high.
BRP just doesn't have the software update ready yet.

In the meantime - I was told to ride it in limp mode if it's in a safe area - so that the coolant starts to flow again and air starts blowing over engine.

I do hope all these issues can be addressed and fixed.

My ST has never shown high temp on the gauge/bars....I question if it works properly....light has come on and limp mode.......

Scotty, here are the before and after pics of the plugs for comparison. The after plug pic is taken after BRP at Pitbull make a change, and has 2000 miles on it. spyder plug.jpg Now for the after pic. resize after plug.jpg Still pretty lean. but not as bad.

The second plug definitely looks much better!
(I'd almost call it, "Good to go", but it could use just a little bit more color on the senter ceramics,,,)

Canada has called them on it; perhaps NHTSA will be next...

Bob...the recall from Canada is for a new heat shield to protect the master cylinder from melting... and thank you BRP...and the USA will follow soon.....it does not address the heat issues with over heating, running lean etc.....the heat is still there...the master cylinder will now be protected

That looks better. Still lean, but not unusual for an EPA approved smog engine. I understand the pitfalls for a manufacturer in allowing any changes that could updet the EPA applecart, but it sure would be nice to have a limited ability to tune things...much like the jets and needle settings of our youth.

Remember the snowmobiles from the mid to late-sixties? If you pulled a plug that WASN'T dripping oil and jet black; you were sure that it wasn't your sled! nojoke
Char, A new and improved heat shield will certainly help; have you been looking at yours for either obstructions in the fuel delivery system, or leaks in the air intake system? Or both??

Yeah... there are trade offs in everything.... One of my Valkyries.... 6 cyl, 6 carbs... I tuned for here at sealevel.... we are at 31 ft elevation. MY bike ran GREAT!!!!! would SMOKE the back tire at a twist of the wrist!!! never had to drop the clutch to light it up.:yikes:... BUT... traveling on it, in the Rocky Mountains... it would SMOKE like a diesel... cut out.. and foul the plugs.... pulled th tops off of the carbs (6 of them) removed the .020 shims from under the needles ...in a motel parking lot in Montrose Co. Removed the pre filter from the K&N... and it sure ran better.... got home and had a flat spot in the mid range torque.:banghead:.. and that was the reason I fattened it up with the shims..... Now... I also have a Harley Electraglide...fuel injected... ran GREAT in the mountains.. and at sea level But .It would adjust to the ambient.... it has a PC3 running piggyback to the ECM, and the ECM is burned to a stage 2..( the bike is stage 4) just wanted more than stock burn on the ECM incase the PC3 failed... wouldn't burn up the engine getting home if I took it easy. .............. I can do the carbs myself... need to put the Harley on the dyno and have it dialed in to make it run it's best.... I don't know.... My theory is: if ya can't fix it with a hammer and a wrench.... It's probably 'electrical"

HEAT ISSUES

A long time ago I posted how to get cooler air to the throttle bodies for less than $ 10.........If 5 people here actually did it I'd be really surprised to find that out........Maybe because it didn't involve any CHROME and it wasn't Uber Expensive :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:................From what I see on the KewlMetal product You are still Sucking Extremely HOT AIR into the throttle bodies........Annnnnnnd BRP designed that AirBox for a very good reason......just sayin ....Mike

Did you get your heat issue problem solved?? The Dealer sent a tow trailer to pick up my ST-S to take it back to the shop, about 40 miles away. Theres 110 miles on the speedo, I’ll get it back Thursday the 4[SUP]th[/SUP]if its fixed,. Your bike isn’t much different than mine, the troubles we’re having may be the same. Please let me know how you make out at [email protected]
