• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Here's some Tips on Lifting the RT!

I'm sorry, I didn't see the part number discussed in the past. I did search this forum before purchasing.

I did measure before I purchased. I suspect the display sample was not the same model that was in the box below. They all sell for the same price.
A person would have to enter the store armed with the various model numbers to know even to look for a specific model.

No worries. There is a ton of information discussed here and it can be difficult to pull it all together sometimes. Many times it can be a blurb in an unrelated topic.

You are absolutely correct, it is very confusing. The price is the same for multiple item numbers. A common issue with H.F. I had the wrong item in the cart and discovered it while I was waiting in line. This from a guy that thought he knew what he was doing. The store had just stacked them all over and I was more focused on the best looking box in the pile.

Steriltech which model/year Spyder you have? If a pre 2014 RT look into getting Spyderpops heat blocker for the right side. It makes a big difference.

For others having trouble with clearance I got a set of auto ramps and run the Spyder RT part way up then using a an auto jack bring it up level and slide a 3rd ramp under the rear wheel. This holds it very securely and I can change my oil very easily.

I have been researching this lift from Quasar Project Ltd. Here is the Youtube video link:

I had this thought to raise my 2012 Spyder RT. I purchased an automotive ramp where the rear ramp portions can be removed. I ride up, remove the ramps, than use a floor jack under the rear shock area. This lets me do ANYTHING I want to underneath or at the rear wheel.

Keep us updated on your research, that looks like a cool lift. Looked at their web site, what would the total cost be, minus shipping, I'm close enough to go pick one up if I had to.

I have an air operated lift table that I purchased when I still had a motorcycle. I purchased it with the side extensions to accommodate atv's (I also use it for my ride-on mower). The extensions are mounted on two pipes, so I installed longer pipes to accommodate the extra width of my Spyder. I had to remove the front wheel clamp because of the front of my Spyder. The lift table just is long enough, but it works great.

Is it OK to put a Jackstand under rear shock absorber?

I like that you’ve posted pictures. My wife just transitioned from 2 wheels to a 2013 RTS SE5 that she bought from the original 95 yr old owner. I’m doing my first oil and filter change on this “new” machine. I do most of the basic maintenance on our motorcycles and cars but the Spyder is a new thing. I have the full factory manual. I don’t have a motorcycle lift but floor jacks and jackstands and even stacks of 2x8 lumber. Some folks are dead set against supporting on the rear shock saying BRP warns against this. Seems to me if the rear shock can support the shocks of driving a jackstand wouldn’t be a problem.

What has your experience been?

Thanks

If you plan on changing your own oil it sure makes it a lot easyer if you can get it up on stands to work on. Here's a few pics as to where to place the jack and the stands.

I use a 1500 lb motorcycle jack and it lifted the RT no problem.

Back pad is almost directly under the driver foot peg.

I wouldn't, but that's just me.

You could use a 2x4 placed under both ears of the bracket though. Lift from the bracket and not the shock bolt.

I lift from the frame.

EKB2, BRP don’t “warn” about doing this, they state in their workshop manual, DO NOT do this. That’s enough for me to think - ok, I don’t want them to have an issue with warranty (or other) claims, so I won’t do this. You do you however.

As K80 and Mike say, a block of wood across the whole mechanism is different, but lifting under that single point is not something I would do, just in case

:oldpost: The original post goes back to 2009. The thread has sat dormant since 2017.

Good information, and the OP owns the site and has a garage in Nixa MO.

Post accordingly.

I haven't seen anything about using an automotive 2-post lift to work under your Spyder.

MY lift is tied up with my race car right now, but when I get a chance, I plan to see if I can manipulate the arms to reach some hard points underneath the Spyder.
My back doesn't like getting up from a creeper anymore. :gaah:

I'll get some pics and post back here when I can.
