There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. HELP! Oil pressure light

Today I started getting the low oil pressure light. It only seems to happen AFTER I turn off the engine. Checked the oil level it seemed fine. I have been reading on here about an oil sensor needing to be replaced in some spyders I just bought this on Thursday(May 9) only has 573 miles on it. Of course my dealer isn't open on Sunday. I will be calling him tomorrow, any thoughts until I can get ahold of him? Any help is appreciated.

Your due for your 600 mile service, have them check it at the same time. Also don't forget to get the section in the Owners Manual signed when they do the 600 mile service.

Unless I'm reading something wrong, that makes perfect sense to me....

Today I started getting the low oil pressure light. It only seems to happen AFTER I turn off the engine. ...

If you've killed the engine and left the key on, you're going to have the low oil pressure since the engine isn't running to turn the oil pump...just like when you turn it on before you start the engine.

Normal

Would it just be the oil light though and not any of the other ones that normally come on?

Normal. Engine not running, oil pump not pumping, no oil pressure, low oil pressure light should be on.

This is actually normal for most vehicles that I know of, not just a Spyder.

I did the same yesterday. Shut spyder off. Turned key back on to check odometer--oil pressue screen came on.

Did the light go out when you started the engine? If it did there isn't a problem. With no oil pressure (engine off) the light better be on. You said the oil level was fine. There is a know problem that the light will remain on after a oil change and the only way to clear it is to increase the rpm above 4000 for about 15 sec.

The only time to worry is if the light stays on with the engine ''Running''
If you have a car go over to it and turn the key on with the engine OFF, The light will be on, Its called a bulb check...

Just to clairify.

You do know that the oil pressure light is not designed to measure oil QUANTITY.

It signifies PRESSURE.

You could be a quart or even more low on oil but you would still have enough oil in the system to provide pressure enough to lubricate the engine.

But as those other posters have noted, the engine has to be running in order to generate any pressure to measure.

There is no gauge to measure how much oil is in your Spyder other than the dipstick.

Thanks to all for the responses. It seems to make perfect sense to me that the oil light would come on when the engine is not running except that it wasn't on after I shut down the engine during the previous couple of days and it seemed odd that it was on now. I will checkout the 4000 rpm suggestion though.

oil light come on

I have a used spyder that I purchased recently and the last owner has no service records.
My oil light is coming on and I have checked the level several time (at operating temperature) and it is full.
Could this be a problem with the sensor or maybe it is from lack of service (oil changes)
It is an SE5, so maybe the filters need to be changed.

If you purchased with no service records, the first thing I would recommend would be to get it serviced. An oil and filter change, checking the air filter, belt tension and alignment, and inspecting a host of other things would be a good idea...as would be connecting to BUDS to look for fault codes and needed updates. I hate to see you spend more money right now, but an investment in a sevice call at a good dealer sounds like the path to piece of mind and a good future for your Spyder.
