• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

HELP! High pitch noise ??

Cruising RT

New member
I purchased my 2013 RT used last fall with only 1430 miles on it and noticed a couple weeks ago a high pitch sound after turning switch off. The sound continued for at least 20+ minutes. Sent bike down to be serviced and have sound checked out. I was told by authorized dealer that this is normal. Normal??? The tech's resolution to the noise was as follows: Tech confirmed noise and reports that the sound is normal. The throttle bodies have a servo motor on them for the throttle plate. The servo motor holds the throttle plate closed to assist with cold starts. It is normal per Can Am for the servo motor to run anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes.

I'm a true greenhorn! This blows my mind. Looks as if this will drain my battery. Anyone else experienced this?

i know that the Spyder computer does something for a short period of time after it shuts off but i have never heard the whining noise.

Mine usually runs for 15-20 minutes after shut down and there is a high pitched whine associated with it. Bothers the dogs more than me.

The throttle body takes a lot of power out of your electrical system and this is one example. Another is the DPS and VSS systems that also take a lot of power. That is why keeping the battery up to full charge is so important and is also the source of a lot of problems that seem to be unrelated to the battery.

The solution is to drive it a lot and when garaged for a time to always use a maintainer for the Spyders. This is even more critical for those built prior to 2014 because they use a magneto not a traditional alternator.

Some are louder than others. Some people can hear the high pitched sound the servos make better than others.

Just Ignore it. Your Spyder does that on purpose. Worry when you don't hear it anymore... :ohyea:

There you have it..

I can hear the sigh of relief..still won't make it quieter but it is always good to know..some get quieter or you just get used to it...

Yep, do feel relief hearing that this is normal. I really appreciate everyone on this forum helping to educate.

See page 55 of the 2013 RT owner's manual. Easy to overlook.
All Models
This vehicle is equipped with an Electronic
Throttle Control (ETC).
Each time the ignition switch is turned
OFF, the ETCmotor stays energized for
40 minutes.
The ETC motor will emit a high frequency
sound during this period of
time that can be heard in a quiet environment.
This is a normal characteristic of the vehicle.

Wow:yikes: Must have skipped that page while reading. Thanks:bowdown:

Could be two sources

When you pull into the garage you will probably hear a high pitch tuneless hum sometimes it could sound like "Where you been?" In both cases put your keys in your pocket and step away from the source, it will probably stop in about half an hour.
