Hi All!

I am new and I am not yet Spyder owner. I am a 52 years old German, live in Austria, and I look for a Spyder because I am handicapped (paraplegia) since may 2009 after an accident with one of my bikes.

I am going to decide wether to buy a Spyder or a motorbike with sidecar and I try to find some answers here.
I am user of www.spyderforum.de and the user Suppentrulli sent me the link to your forum and the name of two handicapped members.

I think a Spyder with a handbrake and the auto trans would be a good fit for you, I know that's what I would be looking at if I was in your situation. What are your concerns about the Spyder?

Get with SethO he has the experience and he can tell you how to get a platform made for your wheelchair and other things you may need to help you get going. Hope you get a :spyder2:they are awsome. They have things that other bikes just don't have!!! ABS,Traction control, stablizer sytem,equalizer sytem. The only really big thing to watch out for is the other guy out on the road. AND they don't tip over at the stop light!!!!:roflblack:and:welcome:

The answer is yes. The SPYDER is more controllable than a bike with side car.

I have a 2008 RS with SE5. I also added a lever parking brake that was not too expensive. I am not parapalegic, but am a left leg above knee amputee. The Spyder was a great fit for me.

The RT was not available when I purchased mine. If I were doing it now, I would definitely be looking at the RT. A really great advantage is the Powered Parking Brake button on the consule. No need to depress the pedal that requires the use of your left foot, like on the RS model.

The bike itself is very stable and no need to hold it up. I have not ridden a side-car equipped bike, but I have tried a few trikes (2 wheels in the back) and did not find them to handle very well at all. The Spyder is great for handling and VERY QUICK.

what is your injury level? BUY a spyder!!, I have rode a motorcycle with landing gear, a side car and my spyder and you can ryde and setup the spyder so you can ride by yourself and have the storage. I have 43k for miles on my spyder and I ride everyday all over the us plus I ride to work in -40 F.

My injury level is Th11 and I feel strong in the torso. Only the legs does not work .

I would prefer a motorbike with landing gear, this is my real favorite. The problem is the storage and the wheelchair. Witch type of motorbike and landing gear did you try?

A sidecar is not really an option, because it does not lean as an motorbike does (that is what I love). Maybe it is an option compared with the Spyder, I do not know. I had a russian bike with side car before I had paraplegia. It was funny, but I did only 4.000 kms with it and in the same time I drove my motorbikes 90.000 kms. Anything more to explain the difference :sour:?

In Germany exist some special sidecars, the "leaning sidecar". Probably "leaning sidecar" is a German expression, because it is wrong. Not the sidecar does lean but the motorbike.

I will try to find some one who does the needed mechanlcal adaptions for my. I have no lack of ideas, but someone has to do it and to get the approval of the authotities...

Another idea is the Norwegian Leanster. But it has the same problems as a motorbike wihtout sidecar, the storage. And the leanster is very high, 86 cms.
