Heel-Toe Shifter is Installed

Got the heel-toe shifter from Value Accessories yesterday, and of course went right out to install it. Came upon a couple of problems. First, when I first put it on, the heel portion of the shifter was scraping against the inside panel. So I took a hammer to it to put enough of a bend in it so it would not scrape. Then when I tightened the bolts to the existing shifter, found that it went too far back, causing my leg to hit the passenger footboard. It also was set up too low for me to push my heel down far enough to shift. Part of that problem may have been that that is the foot that I had a toe amputated on and the issues with my foot could have been causing this problem.
So what I did to get it to work was drill new holes in the HT shifter, and corresponding holes in the existing shifter to get it lined up exactly where I wanted. I used a hacksaw to remove the extra shifter in the front. My foot doesnt hit the passenger floorboard and the heel shifter is high enough up so it works well with my old crappy ankle. I took it out for a short test ride and it works fine. I still have to paint it but my bad foot was killing me, and Pebbles was on me to rest it before I did any damage to it.

Well done...

Just a dab of flat black and it will look like it came that way from the factory....:2thumbs: should help you out and keep you manual....

Shifter

Great job of re-engineering to meet the need.
Glad you are able to stay in the breeze.
Cheers, David C.

Glad you were able to get it installed and working for you. I installed mine with the web floor boards, and I love it. I like being able to wear my nice shoes to church without scaring up the toe.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Looking forward to getting it painted. Supposed to be around 70 tomorrow so I think I will ride Cocaine to my surgeon and give the HT shifter a little bit of a workout. Hopefully my cartoon foot (only 4 toes) will do good with it.

I bought that heal toe shifter but then later bought floorboards. Inspector Gadgets heal toe shifter worked out better for me.

Bam (Assuming that I can call you by your first name... :D)
The best of luck today!
Don't overdo it, and listen to what your foot is telling you... nojoke

Of course you can call me Bam, Bob. I went on a 93 mile ride today, and at one point hit 115 on the speedo. My cartoon foot is a little swollen after that and it did take some time getting used to the HT shifter. I also passed, barely, 12,000 miles on Cocaine today. Did that in 11 1/2 months. Should have hit that a lot sooner but circumstances beyond my control interceded. Here is my picture for proof.

:clap::congrats: :firstplace: :2thumbs:

Glad to hear that the foot didn't complain too much... just keep a watchful eye on it! nojoke

(I've had two episodes with diabetic foot ulcerations: almost lost the leg due to them!)

Funny thing about my foot problems is that I am not diabetic. Kidneys failed, toe amputated, typical diabetic stuff but I am not diabetic. Very thankfull for that because the problems associated with diabetes are numerous and painfull. Good luck with your issues. 👍

Bob,

I watched your video of the installation of Inspector Gadgets shifter, which is how I got the idea of installing it the way I did. Guess I should have bought that shifter but the Rivco
one I got was supposed to be an easier install. It was but it just didnt line up like it should have.

My Missus is eleven years into a kidney transplant..We're thankful every day for that!:pray:
Diabetes may "suck crap through a straw"; but there are so many conditions out there that are so much worse... I'm pretty thankful for what I DO have. :D

16 years into my transplant. Hope she keeps doing good. I echo everything you say.

omg!!! i was thinking about a heel n toe shifter but after hearing that i might leave well enough alone..do they make a after market shifter that doesnt require me to be a engineer...

The one I got from Value Accessories is a very easy install, but it didnt line up auite right on Cocaine. It might line up correctly on yours. I do know that when my foot is completely healed, the shifter will probably come off. I prefer it the old fashioned way.

EDIT: Gary, your signature shows an SE5. Why would you need a HT shifter?
