• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Heading to the East Coast

I am not sure how familiar you are with the area around NY city..
If I may...

I would do the following to avoid the traffic, bad roads, pissed off cagers and instead take a more scenic route, which will save you some grief.
You probably will save time too:

1. Do not cross the Washington Bridge into NY, instead follow the signs for Palisades Interstate Parkway.
Take it North. (It is a beautiful road. If you need a break about that time - stop at the Stateline Lookout between exits 2 and 3.)

2. Look for RT.287 and take it East. Look for signs for Tappan Zee Bridge.

3. After crossing the Bridge - Stay on RT.287 East and then, via a couple of switches -CHECK the MAP- you'll be on RT.15 NORTH. (Another very nice road).
From there you can switch to RT.95 when you feel like it, but I would stay on RT.15 as long as time permits.

This could also bring a welcome change from the boring Highway riding :)

Enjoy!

Is HDX one of your HD riding buddies going with you ??? Make sure they pack some oil !!! :roflblack::roflblack: Ride safe Firefly ! Wish you would have come through NY via I-90, I would have bought ya lunch.

Fly, be very careful of those New York City- New Jersey drivers. You may think your good, but those guys will chew you up and spit you out for breakfast.:lecturef_smilie::roflblack::roflblack:

I strongly agree with all of the comments regarding NYC and NJ ryding! :yikes:
Possible alternate...
in Allentown: watch for 33 North take that and stay on it up to US Route 209. That'll bring you up along the Delaware river into the Milford/Matamorus area.
From there you can hit Route 84 East and head towards Connecticut!

Have a safe trip and take lots of pictures! :2thumbs:

If you can, on the return side, stop at Wellesly Island, via the Thousand Island Bridge. It's a good ride, there's a tower there you can see for miles from. A little east of there, there's a castle in the middle of the St. Lawrence.

You're not done with him yet; are you? You guys HAVE to meet! and I want to be there...
It could either be like a gunfight, or "Animal House"! :roflblack:

Small town boy heads for big city...film at eleven! :roflblack: Godspeed! You're a braver man than I.

We're trying to save his life here... nojoke I've lived within spitting distance of the rotten apple my whole life and wouldn't dream of taking a bike through it... a tank perhaps!
I am a cautious driver (rider!) and always try to stay within my perceived limitations. Anybody can drive anyplace that they want but I would strongly suggest to NOT take on NYC for fun...

Thanks for the well wishes and advice. I'll pass the info along to the ride cap'n.

Brave ain't the right word Scotty -- stupid maybe. ;-)

Already met HDX & SMY once. ;-)

Aha, 209 The Ho Chi Minh trail, Watch out for the Squirrel Chaser's, Since the park service took it over they guard the speed limits like they own them. [i guess they do own them]
I like to take 209N from Milford To port J then Rt 97 Thu the Hawks Nest along the Delaware River up to Narrowsburg NY.

You Don't have to worry about Jersey drivers we mostly stop for red lights.
It's at the intersections with Stop signs you got to worry about, Stopping at them is optional. The same with singal lights [optional.]:gaah:

Firefly

Never mind those haters it's not that bad (depending on what time it is) If you have a gopro turn it on when you approach the GWB you will be going thru the same area as lamonster did yes he was nervous but trust me you will be fine. I drove trucks thru their for years and i'am fine maybe not normal but i'am fine :roflblack::rollback:so here are some tips for you first Fill your gas up in new jersey then if you have ez pass great if not have cash handy when cross the bridge go directly to the left lane trust me on this because people will be wanting to exit to manhattan, the bronx, queens and long island and this will speed things up becareful you never know when you will approach a car broken down on the cross bronx expressway and it takes forever to get it cleared. You will be fine just enjoy the ride and the experience. Oh and incase you did not know the george washington bridge ,the crossbronx expressway is route 95 so don't worry.

It was called that by the truckers Back on the CB days when tucks were aloud to use it to get Rt 80 at the Gap. Any who flew over Nam and looks at a map of 209 would see the similarity [except Nam had less pot holes]
