• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyderquest Final Itinerary

Hey guys,

I was just wondering why we are taking Interstate 87 to Whiteface when going by HWY 9 would be much nicer and quieter ride and it only adds about 15 mins to the ride. As a new rider, my wife has not had a lot of experience on the faster highways and she is a little nervous about riding in a pack on an Interstate. I don't want to cause any problems but Interstate driving is also boring at best for myself.

Brian

Sorry, Brian we are taking the interstate for a couple of reasons.

This interstate section on I-87 is a little different. The traffic thins out not to far out of Lake George and has decent views. I personally love this stretch of interstate because it runs through the middle of nowhere. The majority of people that use this section of road are the ones heading to Canada. We should have no issues with congestion.

I also agree with Rnet, Rt 9 is a junk road. Also, it isn't easy to get a pack of Spyders through small towns with lights and village congestion. That 15 minutes extra on Mapquest actually would turn into quite a bit more.

Let your wife know, Spyder packs are a little different from conventional two wheel packs of bikes. Spyders follow behind each other and is like following any other car when driving. Spyders packs do not stagger formation like she might see two wheelers do.

Any other questions feel free to ask. See you next week !!!!!

if i could just add one more comment to the two above, that would be--"if the foliage is starting to show itself, the view from 87 will be a lot bigger than riding on 9 as well! it's a real nice ride!"nojoke

And the ride from Lake George up to Lake Placid has some miles to it...
87 is the most direct AND most scenic way to get there!

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't realize how bad Rt. 9 to Whiteface was. I have been to Lake George a dozens times over the last 25 years and I have travelled 87 north of Lake George a number of times. I usually come into Lake George from Rt. 28 and then the last leg of RT. 9 and that is always a nice ride so I thought the rest of Rt. 9 would be as nice. My bad. See you guys next week.

Update 100 miles south of Lake George on the fall foliage, not much color here, but the ash trees are turning yellow and dropping some leaves. And who else it getting ready, washing the trike this morning and loading it on to the toy hauler. Also need to pack a bunch of stuff for the :bbq:. :2excited:Anyone with a report on the foliage in southern Quebec or around LG.

bill p and gretchen helped carol and i fold and stuff all the shirts for spyderquest last night. all shirts are packed and labeled! registration should go smooth as all packets and shirts will be pre-alphabetized! (not sure that there's such a word, but sounded good) loaded all the bottled water and soda for the event into the rv. still waiting on reggies prize from tricled, but all the others are here and packed. just gotta wash and load the "orange pumpkin" and we'll be ready to roll out on wednesday afternoon!! so looking forward to meeting some new friends and sharing some time with the old ones! let the partaaaaay begin!:clap:to everyone coming, drive safe and we'll see you at registration on thursday!

Foliage for Spyderquest

Here on the VT/QC border (east of the Green Mountains) there is some early color. A few isolated trees are approaching peak color. The hills have a faint orange/red hue to them. Higher elevations are more advanced, so would expect early to mid-stage color around Whiteface by the end of next week.

thanks for the foliage update from up north. i think most will be pleasantly surprised with the early fall colors this year, when spyderquest arrives! (by the way, pm sent)

Too Late to get in on the FUN????

Hello all, My wife and I are avid Spyder riders and have already made vacation plans and booked lodging to attend the event. Is it too late to join any of the action if we haven't registered? Can we get t-shirts, tickets, etc?

Rides are not a problem Registration is limited do to the food count. Be at sign in early and you might be able to buy a shirt. Dinner/cruise you will have to book on your own and these are very limited.

:gaah:Not much this week near here, but I am sure the cooler nights planned for this week will expedite mother nature. I'll keep an eye...see you Wednesday:D

As a resident of the area, Rte 9 and Rte 73...long on the tooth if you get the drift. Not really a bad ryde but the event is to ryde and see the Adirondacks from the peak of Whiteface. Return could be on your own and certainly can agree the secondary roads through Schroon Lake etc. are beautiful. But then again we want to get back for the Dinner/cruise....so time is almost of the essence. Ryde on my friend ryde on...

Too bad

randy, think you've got it all summed up there! like I said before, let's sit back and wait for sept 19th. to roll around. or actually the night of the 18th and the pre-event cocktail party!!!:roflblack::roflblack: only thing I see missing there is the reminder that registration closes on September 1st!!! guys that's the absolute latest as chad will be making final meal plans and buying the food.

I'm sad that could not register on time, but I will be there anyway with my family leaving to Lake George on Wednesday after 4pm...:banghead:

any room

Hi Randy is there room for 2 more people. We where away and missed the cut off date for registration. We have a room at The Studio motel for 3 nites.

I just read the itinerary and it looks like you are going to have a fantastic event. If I had a Spyder and lived closer I would be there for sure. I hope the weather is perfect just be sure to watch out for moose and frost heaves. And be sure to post lots of pictures.
