• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Have you done a complete oil change?

It is recommended to clean the oil tank strainer at the 600 mi service and the next time at the 12k service.
Drain the oil tank. The strainer is screwed into the lower portion of the oil tank facing rearward. Remove the Oetiker clamp (it's the one shot clamp)that will have to be replaced. DON'T install a regular worm gear clamp they don't clamp 360 degrees. It could possibly leak. Unscrew the strainer. Replace the o-ring. Clean the strainer, blow it out with compressed air. Reinstall the strainer and install clamp on the hose. reinstall the hose to the tank, and squeeze the clamp. Change the oil filter and o-ring Refill the tank with oil make sure and follow the directions on the oil tank to get to proper oil level.

Bet you didnt know there was a oil tank strainer. :D

Thanks for the tip and procedure......straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. You are a great asset to this forum. Keep the good stuff coming, and thanks for hanging around with us. BTW, I did know about the strainer, but not the Oetiker clamp. :D

Thanks. My 12k service isn't that far off. Hadn't got that far in my research yet. You've saved me some time. :2thumbs:

What is a good alternative to the one time clamps if you dont have the tool to close them, or is there another way to crimp them? I looked for fuel injector style clamps in the size at the local auto parts stores. None are big enough.

The oetiker clamp has a much greater chance at leaking than does a stainless worm gear clamp. Just ask all the owners of Seadoo PWC's that have sunk due to the oetiker clamps !! After time the hoses will compress and all clamps need to be tightened. This is easily accomplished when SS worm gear clamps are used.

I didn't know that and I am WAY past 12K (working on 23K)... guess I better do it on the next change. Thanks for the tip. :2thumbs:

I posted earlier about a large fuel leak on my Spyder. Turned out that the Oetiker clamp on the fuel line failed under pressure. Replaced it with a "worm"

Oetiker clamps are used to save time, they go on fast. Over time they lose grip. Worm clamps also lose grip, BUT a simple turn with a screw driver will take care of that. Try that with a Oetiker.:yikes:

600 mile service

heres a pic of the strainer removed from my bike at 600 miles Also you are supposed to pull the plugs for inspection and grease the zircs. There are pics of all this stuff in my profile.

I have done the...

full change on three units. It is a simple task but time consuming. Be sure you follow the procedures one step at a time and you cannot go wrong. Use your torque wrenches on the screws and plugs and there will be no leaks. If you re-use your gaskets wipe them off with a clean cloth and turn them opposite side up.

If you have an air hose near by blow the dirt/grit off all the areas you are working prior to removing anything. If you have to use a cloth clean the area first then as you are removing the screws plugs clean some more.

If you've never done this before and you need additional help after reading all of this thread pm me. Always happy to lend a hand! /Ken
