There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hauling a Spyder from Ohio to Georgia

I'm going to Georgia for six months and want to bring the Spyder. U-Haul doesn't have a utility (open) trailer that's big enough and can do one-way out-of-town trips. Their 6x12 cargo (enclosed) trailer is big enough, but is $300 for a two-day rental and I have doubts if they'll let me put a mototrcycle in there.

Does anyone have an inexpensive solution?

i did a estimate for shipping spyder from columbus to atlanta.
300 sounds better now:D or just ryde it down? it should be somewhere between 500-650 miles.
by the way, that transport company did have spyder on their trike list.

I have a homemade trailer made from a boat trailer(geuss its half home made) I got for $300 plus another $50 for a light kit and bearing sets for both sides. See if you can find a cheaper trailer and then sell it later or keep it for stuff like this in the future. I had to have a trailer to haul my spyder to the dealer 60 miles away for a belt replacememnt and recalls. I can also use it for hauling other stuff so its worth it to keep.

When are you leaving and when are you coming back?

I agree with the buy a trailer and then sell it when your done theroy.
You should be able to pick up a used utility trailer for 3-4 hundred and then sell it real quick for 2-3 hundred when your done.
Craigs list is your friend here.

Of course, I would be doing my best to figure out a way to ride it but..........

Last summer I met a guy ( don't remember his handle on the board) who was carrying his Spyder in the full-size pickup-- backed in it just fit. He towed the pick-up behind his motor home. He called a tow company when he wanted to get Spyder out of the truck - drove it off onto their flatbeds.

How about putting the household goods in the trailer and the Spyder in the pick-up bed?

Leaving Ohio around May 28th and returning November 24th.

I was going to offer my trailer since it's just sitting around right now. Unfortunately, I am going to use it this September for the Gatlinburg event. If you change your plans, you are welcome to use from now until Sept.

I looked at the website, but I didn't see anything in my budget. Plus, I'd have to figure out what to do with the trailer in Georgia.

I went back to the U-Haul site and took another look at the 5x9 trailers. This trailer (http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=opentrailer-5x9) is only $176 for 4 days and it has a ramp. The only problem is that it's 57" inside and the Spyder is 59.3" (according to the BRP website.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can buy or fabricate to temporarily replace the front wheels to shave a few inches off the width?

I can't answer your? But the 6x12 I think would work along with added storage.:dontknow:

I don't need the added storage, but the 6x12 seems to be the only solution. I've read elsewhere it has no cargo tie-downs inside, so I'll have to fabricate something on the inside to keep it from moving.

Joe,

Is this TDY or DITY? if DITY, you can claim the trailer rental and get the open trailer.

It's a PCS move due to the length of the school. I was going to do a DITY (now called Personally Procured Move), but at first glance, it looks to be a pain in the butt as far as the paperwork goes.

In addition, I've applied for a PME BAH waiver so I get paid housing rates for Ohio. As a result, "my shipping entitlement is limited to the unaccompanied baggage weight allowance to include my professional books, papers, and equipment and I will not exceed my unaccompanied weight allowance limitation."

Ironically, I have little tolerance for Army processes and I thought it would be easier to just pay for the trailer out of pocket.

For the non-military:
PCS - Permanent Change of Station
PME - Professional Military Education
BAH - Basic Allowance for Housing
