Has any one found good replacement Spark Plug Wires

:popcorn: Waiting like a Vulture over a limping prairie dog over this one!

SpyderPops got his Proto-Type set today. Initial reports are good. But that's only regarding how the look. (They do look impressive if I do say so myself).

But once they are installed and the tupperware is on, they only way they will impress is if they work well. That report should come soon. We are at T-Minus ?

.....It's just like me trying to get people to change the transmission filter with EVERY oil change (instead of every other time as recommended by BRP). .....
BRP issued a bulletin to dealers about a year (or more) ago, changing the schedule to replace both filters at every oil change.

Really! Well, shows you how much I've been paying attention to the RT. I guess if I owned one I'd be more up to date. Still, a lot of Spyderlovers are buying just 1 trans filter for every 2 engine oil filters.

This change applies to both models.

Cowtown is doing something with the spark plug wires when they are doing the Performance upgrade. They change out to a hotter plug, change out the spark plug wires, install Ram Air, green air filter and Two Brothers Exhaust.

Sorry, I meant to say SE, not RT. Of course they would recommend the filter change in all Electric Shift models.
See what you get when you visit the forum when you are tired. No need to be sorry, I just wanted to clarify for those that aren't aware. I never understood the wisdom of filter changes every other oil change. Auto manufacturers used to specify this. How silly!

Seems like I'm always tired these days. Tired and more tired. I guess that's what they meant when they said I could Re-Tire!

Thanks for keeping me straight! We knew what we were talking about but I don't want to lead anyone else astray.

And I am with you. I never, even as a kid, changed oil without changing filters. That is just plain crazy! I understand that the Trans filter probably isn't getting that dirty. But why leave the old oil in the system? And for a few bucks you can put a new filter in anyway. Just never made sense to me.

I heard from SpyderPops tonight. He rode a few miles on the new wire set. Says so far it's really solved some problems for him. I'll let him tell the story after he gets back from his long ride this weekend.

 ...and hoping that the news remains good...

Me too! If I had put these on my Spyder I would not have thought twice. But somehow, having them on someone elses Spyder makes me a bit nervous. Can't explain that.

If I were putting miles on my Spyder I'd have put a set on it by now. But it's just been sitting and I think any wires would work just as well in that case.

I should hear pretty soon from SpyderPops, one way or the other. My feeling is I'd have heard already if the wires were giving him trouble.

I rode to Sturgis and back with them, don't that count for something? :doorag:

BajaRon's Custom Ignition Wire Set!

Ok, I finally got some time to work on the Custom Spark Plug wire sets. I have been pretty busy and I didn't want to rush it. I wanted to take my time and get it right. The assembly process has not been as easy as I assumed it would be. I like things right. I guess I'm a bit anal in that regard. Especially if I'm going to be sending them out to SpyderLovers!

I have had the right parts for awhile and today I took some time and made a set. They came out very nice and I now have an assembly sequence that I think should speed up the process.

These wires are more than just different, they are completely different. I didn't really go for cosmetics since these wires will be hidden under Tupperware. Though I think they look pretty cool, my component selection was stricly based upon function.

The Spiral Wound Wire is not only a much better way to get spark from the coil to the spark plug, these custom wires should easily outlast 2 or 3 OEM wire sets.

Here are some of the improvements over OEM.

Wire
OEM
- 7mm Carbon Resistor Core
Custom - Accel 8.8mm Spiral Wound Race Wire

OEM - High resistance Carbon Core reduces spark energy at the spark plug and tends to break down over time causing misfires and backfiring. Manipulating these wires (as when you change a spark plug) can cause unseen damage and problems.
Custom - Low resistance, Spiral Wound bi-metallic wire core provides a continual, hard wire electrical path delivering more energy to the spark plug ~ Metal wire does not break down like the carbon core. Handling is not destructive.

Spark Plug Boot
OEM
- Standard Automotive Rubber provides minimal resistance against arching. Can deteriorate in high heat conditions increasing chance of arching as the boot ages. Handling can be destructive - Short length makes it hard to grip for installation/removal as it is recessed into the Spark Plug hole.
Custom - High Quality Silicone provides maximum protection against arching. Silicone's resistance to high heat environments helps these boots last a long time - Extended Length brings the top of the boot above the the Spark Plug hole making it easy to install/remove. Handling is not destructive.

Coil Boot
OEM
- Automotive Rubber
Custom - 45 deg. High Quality Silicone. 45 degree angle helps it to lay up to the frame rail. (Ok, admittidely the coil boot is not that big a deal, the stock rubber boot is probably all that is needed at this end of the wire. Still, this is a high quality race boot and a nice improvement at the Coil end).

Noise (RFI & EMI Interferance)
OEM
- Good suppression of both noise sources, can deteriorate as carbon core breaks down.
Custom - Excellent suppression of both noise sources, will not deteriorate as long as wires are servicable.

Bottom line, (my opinion of course) is that the OEM wires are adequate for the job if replaced at least with every spark plug change. But if you want a much better spark delivery system with more reliable wires that you can work on without destroying them, this custom set is going to do it for you.

Me too! One set please... for an RT!

RT's take the same wire set as the RS.

Right now my price will be $65.00 delivered to anywhere in the US.

$68.00 delivered to Canada. (USPS 1st Class) or $75.00 (USPS Priority)

$77 delivered to anywhere else in the world (Priority Mail)

I will have more sets ready next week and I'll PM you as I get them done in the order that you're posts appear in this thread. Once I get ahead of demand then I'll have them on the shelf to ship right away.

If you want to add a set of Iridium Spark Plugs they are $17.00 more for domestic and a little higher for International. I highly recommend the Iridium plugs and have been for some time. Looks like BRP is finally coming around to the same conclusion!

Whoda thunk it?

Glad that my rant about the OEM wires has shown such interest and solutions!!! I really like the new ones that BajaRon is making. The wires I made are working great and I still have the replacment OEM wires :( so hope I will not need to buy wires for a while. (By the way, let me know if anyone wants a set of OEM wires.) When I do buy new wires, I will definitely go with BajaRon's plug wires. The attention to detail and quality components should produce a superior product. Great Job!!!!!!
