Isci has the hand brakes, I just ordered one for my rt. I installed it on my 13 rt and now going to put one on my 14,it takes some time to do it but it is worth the effort

Here's the thing..!!

What it does is operate the foot pedal. Now from what I've heard is it does work well but still need that added foot push for hard stops. I would go for it if it operated the front brakes but have gotten used to the single pedal...runs about $1,300.00 another reason I got used to it...:roflblack:

I used to have a hand brake on my 2008 spyder , on my 2012 spyder I installed seal floorboards now it very easy to find the foot brake no need for a hand brake.

I installed the hand brake from Isci and it is the only brake I can use on my bike, since I lost my right leg years ago and it stops great. Make sure you bleed the line correctly and you will have no problem. It works off a slave/master cylinder and it pushes the pedal brake, it works greats and trust me it stops on a dime. The price is 1300 but if you are disabled they will give a discount. It can be installed by yourself just take your time but make sure all air is out of the line and you will be good to go. Take it from me it works, again I only have one leg and it is my only braking system so I know it works. If you need a few pictures of what it looks like installed I can take if you want.

Installed on my 2012 RTS, easy install and works very well at stopping, especially useful in stop and go traffic.

YES PLEASE Thanks

Here are some pictures that I took today. I tried to get the best I can, it really is not that hard you just need to bleed it correctly. I ran the brake line up the frame by the air box as you can see in the picture.

i did the one on my 13 rt so this should be easier

I am traveling to Alabama on Friday to have ISCI install one on my 2014 RTS. I am curious, how easy is the brake to squeeze by hand? Also can you "lock up" the brakes if you need to?

Thanks in advance!

It requires a decent amount of squeeze to really jam on the brakes. Just typical braking isn't a huge deal but it's more and more difficult the closer you get to maxing out the handbrake. You'll get 90%(ish) of the braking force you can apply with the pedal.

I have to disagree with everyone that states that the hand brake does not work well or is harder to use then the foot brake or it does not lock up. If you bleed the brake correctly it will work easy and does lock up easy. I made the mistake of think good was good enough. It is no different then any other hand lever on any other bike that I have driven in my life.

Great input everyone. Thank you!

It works well. I've spent hours and hours of testing/adjusting/bleeding and every time I think I have it whipped I push down on the brake pedal during a practice emergency handbraking maneuver and there's always just a little more brake that the pedal provides above the handbrake. It's noticeable on the pedal and can be felt in additional deceleration. This is the second bike with an entirely different kit so if I got a faulty one, I got two of them.

As far as breaking effort.... . I can easily lock up the brakes on my ATV and my snowmobile with only my index finger. This thing requires whole hand with a healthy squeeze.

Don't believe me? Call ISCI. They understand what they have and they're straight honest people who will tell you exactly what you're getting. I have nothing but good things to say about them and their support is excellent. Their product is very well constructed and engineered and necessary for me to be able to ride a spyder.

I have had the ISCI hand brake on my 2011 RTS for 24000 miles. I would not have a spyder without this brake installed. All my time that I have ridden bikes, the handle bar front brake has been something I have grown accustom to using. I believe the front brake adds greater braking control on the Spyders when both brake controls are applied at the same time. When a extreme stop is needed I can stop faster while using both foot and hand brake together. My first response in using the brakes is grabbing the hand brake first, old habits I guess. The speed in reaction time can make a difference some times. Anyway ISCI offers a great product. Bob
