Just pulled into my hotel in Daytona. My tire was fine till the wheel locked up and blew the tire. I had a wheel bearing fail and that's what caused the tire to blow. Got about 3 hours of web work to do now so I can't go into details but I made it. Turned out to be a 700+ mile day but I feel pretty good considering. :ohyea:

Just curious. I put Ride-On in mine, and did not want to hear of a flat with it in there. I also carry a Stop-N-Go tire plugger and a compressor. I have considered a spare, and carry one on my tent camper, but I hate to give up the space and the weight. I hope you can get a bearing, and be back on the road soon.

Scotty- now that I have a trailer, I'm reading with great interest. I want to do as much preventative as possible. I read that Ride-on can give out of balance. I'm guessing you didn't have that? I will get the Stop-n-Go to keep with me.

Got some time to type this up before hitting the sack.

The rest of the story is I was doing about 80 keeping up with traffic on I-26 when I felt sort of a tug on the RT, at first I thought it was the wind as I looked at the trees and they were moving pretty good so I thought it was some strange cross wind. I slowed down and it seemed to get worst and that's when I knew something else was up. I looked for the next exit and as I was slowing down I had a real hard tug and that's when I saw my tire go up in smoke. I made to the gas station but it was toast for sure, that's when I started this thread. My first mistake was not realizing it was a bearing to start with, I still thought it was just the tire. By time I figured that out it was too late to call off the service guy so I had to pay him for the service call and the tire. That hurt seeing I was just as stuck as before but now my wallet was a little lighter.

So I get on SpyderLovers.com and look up dealers in the area and I found Columbia Motor Sports. They sent a guy out with a trailer to pick up my trailer and I followed him back to the shop. It was about 40 miles the wrong way but that's okay. They didn't have the parts I needed in stock so they robbed the hub, bearings and wheel and tire so I could get back on the road. I left there place about 5:30 and made to Daytona around midnight. It took about 4.5 hours longer to get here and about another 90 miles or so but I'm here and ready for whatever else life as to throw at me. I'm thankful for the support I got from BRP and the dealer so I could finish my trip. To be honest I never got upset or stressed out about it, I just knew it was all going to work out and it did. :doorag:

:thumbup::thumbup: to Columbia Motorsports for the assist. Gotta love dealers that go out of thier way to help stranded ryders.

Sorry for your troubles Lamont . Any damage to the trailer ? How did it pull after the hub and wheel where replaced ? When was the last time you greased the bearings ? Good luck on the rest of the trip to Daytona .

I have had no problems in over 3,500 miles since I put Ride-On in the trailer tires. Like the Spyder, you can feel it as you first start out, especially after sitting a long while, but it distributes itself in a few miles. If nothing else, it gives me great peace of mind. Of course it would help anything like Lamont's situation. I have never seen a hole worn through the tread of a tire like that! :yikes:

Lamont..how ironic the dealers sign you were parked next to had the word "blowout"

Glad everything worked out..

Just a reminder to all, that there is a maintenance schedule for the trailer, too. Although the schedule calls for greasing the bearings every 12,000 miles, this is hard to track. I suggest doing it at the beginning of every riding season. The bearings and seals can be inspected and replaced (if necessary) at that time.

Sounds like pretty good advice Scotty. I've got Ride on in mine and I hope I make it to Las Vegas without having any problems. Something else to worry about :yikes: Lamont I hope you are back on the road.

Glad you got it taken care of. I think too it shows the great handling characteristics of the Spyder even when towing a trailer with a bum wheel.

Columbia Powersports!

That be my dealer of choice, even though there is one about 60 miles closer to my house..... Long story.
Good that you made it, Lamont.
