• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Gas Smell 2013 STS

Started to smell gas when the STS is stopped at
stop lights and at the end of the ride shutting her down in the garage.
At fuel stops I'm careful not to overfill. :gaah:
Is the 2013 - 998 engine prone to canister purge problems?

GAS SMELL

As the years have gone by ....advances with this engine / system have mostly eliminated the problem....... but if the canister does get contaminated repeatedly it will clog and take a very long time for the gas in it to evaporate ..... I cured my problem by lowering the hose that exits the fuel tank into the canister and adding a " T " with a " dumping hose " to it so any gas in that hose CAN"T flow to the canister ...... it will exit thru the " T " to the ground .........Just look at a Fiche' of the hose routing to the canister from the gas tank ........ Mine was an 08 and an 11 , I think yours is the same ........... Mike

What he said....

:agree: there was a gas cap change but don't know if the 13's were in on it. Check that. Some have done away with the canister completely. There are some postings on that.. you can also not let the fuel level get to low cause that will be when it boils...:lecturef_smilie:

If you don't have the airflow panels on your 13, GET them. Brp provide at no cost. Look for the st airflow panels thread. Keep it much cooler under the Tupperware - stopped my fuel boiling terribly.

My ST Limited had a bad fuel smell for a couple weeks in the fall of 2015. Then suddenly fixed itself. Winter last year I found out BRP has a redesigned replacement purge valve kit. A filter and check valve has been added. I was not having trouble at that time but I changed it out anyway. I found a lot of carbon in the old purge line system. So my guess is some carbon from the cannister is getting into purge valve and causing a problem.

I had the same problem. Dealer replaced the valve and "the gaz line" (as per the invoice) with the new model and passed it under extended warranty. No problem and no smell since then....

Must have fixed this properly on the 2014's as I can top up my tank till my hearts content and not have any fuel smell :yes::clap::clap::ohyea::ohyea::2thumbs::2thumbs:

My '13 STS does leave gas Odor in my garage, I am going in for service soon and I am asking about the Purge Valve redesign, and get it replaced. The smell is worse when I have just filled the tank. I have had the '14 vented side panels installed.
I hope your problem gets resolved!!!!!:thumbup:
