There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Gas Fumes!

Is mine the only bike with this problem ? any time I shut down I smell gas fumes coming from the upper right vent. I removed the Tupperware and found the smog fuel vent canister right where I was smelling the vapors.

Everything is tight - no leaks of any king but the fumes are pretty strong, anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

Mine does it too, I leave the garage open when I get home. I'm suprised they weren't required to install those fume emmission recyclers, most jap bikes have them now.

Have had the same thing since new. Real bad after a long, hard ride. You are the first with the ambition to try to track it down. Not as disturbing since you have verified the smog canister as the source, suprising, though. Not working like it should, it seems. My dealer pretty much ignored it, much to my dismay.

My Aprillia BV 250 Scooter has the same type of canister and believe it or not, it's located in a compartment under the seat however I never had any vapors at all.

As soon the warranty is over I'll take the vent line from the tank and run it aft over the low pressure area by the rear wheel. I've done that to a few of my bikes, I just install an inline fuel filter on the end of the hose to keep bugs and dust from entering the line.

That's what's on the Spyder - it recycles the fumes from the tank back into the intake. The problem is when the engine is stopped - the vapors now escape to the air. If I remember correct, there should be some sort of valve that closes off the vent line to the canister when the engine is stopped.

Yeah, I read to quickly and not carefully...My and all SV's vented...but this one is a little bad...glad I don't have a gas water heater in the garage!

It's too bad big companies don't have a web site where you can express problems and get answers and or fixes . . . :barf:

same here picked mine up Tuesday of this last week...I called the dealer and they told me its no big deal and that I would prob smell it more on hot days then cooler days.....I guess it wont hurt the bike but its not healthy to breathe gas fumes all day.....I might get a DUI!!

Gas fumes

I have not noticed the fumes. I DO have a gas hot water heater in the garage! The next loud noise you hear........

They were "home made" from off the shelf parts for other machinery.
I believe we are talking about two different issues. One is oil in the breather box and the other is fumes from the canister.

I was just answering the question, "Where do I get a catch can?" I think that was asked as someone claimed that once they put on the catch can, the fumes went away. I know that some people theorized that overfilling the gas tank caused raw fuel to overflow into the vapor canister, creating the excessive fumes.

i kinda remember director mentioning something about "fume begone"?
he was saying it works really well and had link on his reply too.
i tried to go back and find it but no luck
i got alot of fume comming out of my evap canister but dealer is saying no problem with canister itself. i thought i will give that a try.

You could run a vent hose to the back of the Spyder.
