There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Garmin 550 not recognized by Garmin Express, but does charge - any ideas?

I am going to post this here as I don't see anywhere else it might go. I bought a Garmin550 from a member here. When I tried to add it to my Garmin Express it does not want to recognize it. It turns on just fine and charges up. My cord is a Garmin factory cord and it works just fine on my 660. Anybody have any ideas? Also can the predictive script be turned off?

Try a new cord there may be a bent pin in the one you're using, or a bent pin in your GPS unit! I have one Garmin that acts up and will not boot up with one of my cords, the rest boot up fine. Try a different cord, bet it will work, doesn't have to be a cord from Garmin, just needs the right plugs on the end!

I'm assuming you have the latest version of Garmin Express (they seem to change it each week).
If not, try an updated version.

I have a 590 and have learned the cable makes a HUGE difference in Express recognizing the GPS. You'll need a cable designed for DATA; most any cable will charge just fine; not all carry data well.

After many cable swaps, I found the one I use with my insulin pump, a data+charging cable, works with the Garmin.

Best of luck.

You probably know this already Paul. There are USB charging cables that only charge, and there are USB data cables that also charge (slowly). Be sure you have the latter (although I would think your Garmin cable does both).

My Nuvi 500 is still supported. The cable I am using is the same one I update my 660 with.

Have you tried doing a factory reset on it?

It's possible the device is faulty. Sometimes a factory reset will work and sometimes not. I also had a 660 I bought used and I never could get it to recognize the memory card in order to load bigger maps. I finally bought a used XT, which has been trouble-free.

This notice from Garmin might apply here. Expand the list. The 550 is on the list. Perhaps Garmin Express is smart enough to know this and won't initiate an update. That's all I got.

Well that"'s a bummer. Now I have 2 boat anchors. A Nuvi 500 and this Zumo 550, which are both on the list. Glad my 660 still works. Just added a loop thru Wolf Creek Pass,Ut and Indian Canyon from Myrouteapp.
Thanks for that list Snowbelt. I did not even know about that list.
