Be The Tailgunner
Have no doubt that you are doing the right thing. When I am on my Spyder and I am with two wheelers I am always the tailgunner. I anticipate lane changes and block the cages. The Spyder is in a very unique position to keep our two wheeled friends safe. It is as wide at the front as a compact car and it attracts attention. Don't get me wrong, I have had people pull out in front of me, but they were not paying attention and would have done the same thing if I was in my cage. (It is my belief that all cars should come standard with a cell phone inhibitor that makes the device useless while driving)
You are spot on about the stopping. I have locked up the back tire on a few occasions with the Sportster to avoid a wreck but with the Spyder I just stomp the brake if I have to and she stops way faster then any vehicle on the road.
When mounted I am at least a foot higher than most cars. My field of view is better and the mirror pods give me great situational awareness for what is behind.
If anyone has questions about how to be a Tailgunner feel free to contact me.

Meaning if I am in the middle of the group and something happens in front of me, I am afraid my fellow bikers may not be able to stop as fast as me. That being said, when in the back, I am aware of who is behind me and back them off from the group..... I think I am doing the right thing. I will deal with who is behind me... nobody else can![]()
