Fuse Box

OK this is electrical for dummies...
Is there a empty fuse slot I can use in the stock fuse box that is only hot with the key on.
I just purchased the Shark Audio 1000 watt stereo and want to wire it to a key on fuse.
I am also going to add a dedicated fuse block for that stereo and my additional lights.
Not having any luck on line finding how to...

I do know not the answer to that; but, why not just go with an in-line fuse holder?

:dontknow:....Yes there is, but it would be complicated figuring out how to access it using the OEM wiring loom...................I would do as Jerry B., suggested and just add a separate fused line..........When I bought my SHARK they provided one in the package........I used that.........Mike :thumbup:

Use a relay

Or a fuseblock with one built in. I used the fz1 fuzeblock for my stereo for years.It was excellent. Low power switched power feed turned it on, to pull big power straight from the battery thru a dedicated, fused heavy gauge wire. You don't want any accessories tied directly to the bikes electrical system.

Thanks... I was looking for a connection for the new fuse block to wire my two extra two set of driving lights a USB port the stereo and the volt meter
and wanted all to be hot only with the key on. the new block would need to come from a key hot connection and the other side would come from the battery.
I have that part all laid out just need the key hot side. :dontknow: jtpollock

Follow the lead back on the backside of the trunk outlet. The trunk outlet is switched. Use the lead to power the relay for switched power to your fuse block. :thumbup:

watts=amps x volts

amps=watts/volts

If you want to get complicated, there may be a PF correction (power factor); but, I wouldn't worry about it because it doesn't apply here.

Therefore Amps = Watts/Volts. 1000/12 = 83.33Amps. You'd need one hell of a fuse.

it comes that way but can be changed to "always on" by moving a fuse in the spyder fusebox...that's what I did so might be worth checking

(fuse in #6 is switched, fuse in #7 is always on)

This is an RS and it does bot have a trunk outlet... And yes my plan is to use the relay just need the hot wire...:dontknow: jtpollock

Shark audio comes with a cord to connect directly to the battery, that cord has an inline fuse.

when I had my RSS I used the accessory cables located near the top of the left shock to supply key power to the fuse block

I would think 1000Watts is a bit much. With a 20Amp fuse, you could go, maybe, 250W max. Even if he is talking about "Music Power" 1000W (actually ~500W) is still a bit much. What the hell would he do with 1000W anyway? He would blow his speakers and his eardrums.:sour:

Mount the 12 volt outlet in your frunk, check the fuse placement for the outlet. Use a posi-tap to tie into the load side of the outlet fuse and wire it into the coil of your relay. That way, you have switched power for your high amp circuit, and a switched plug in the frunk.

I know its an RS. If you don't have a trunk outlet then its even easier. It's wired for one. The wiring is attached to the left front shock tower just behind the trunk. You'll likely have to remove the trunk to get to the wiring.
This would also be a good time to add the OEM trunk outlet if you don't have one.[emoji106]

Just to add. That line is indeed switched but it stays live for a minute or 2 after shutdown. Just don't be alarmed when you hook everything up and it stays live for a short bit after you turn everything off.

The stereo has not come yet but I don't think it draws that much power and possible a 10 to 15 amp fuse not sure.

Back to the original problem above was noted that there was a aux outlet near the top of the left shock tower
well my RS must have been wired on the cheep as there is no outlet so I ma still looking for that key on hot wire.
:banghead: this cant be that hard I know that I'm not the only one to wire an aux fuse block with a separate ground
block for my extra lights and stereo as well as a USB outlet.:gaah: jtpollock.
