• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Full Synthetic vs Synthetic Blend...

.... Maybe this question has already been discussed but........

When I switched to Castro fully synthetic oil for my V-Star, the oil change interval was extended from 4000mi to 7000mi....

Why is there no increase in oil change intervals for the 2013 & older Spyders when switching to fully synthetic oils?....... Why spend more if there is no real savings?

I have been using Royal Purple Motorcycle 10W-40 in my 12 RT SE5 since 600 mile change. No issues or problems what so ever. Bike starts great, runs smooth, shifts smooth even when pulling my trailer anywhere from the 90+ southeast to the -20 at Beartooth Pass.

I've used RP Motorcycle 20W50 in my 97 Harley FLSTS with a Turbocharger for 10 years with no issues either. Heck i even use their grease.

It is expensive, but I choose to spend that money for MY peace of mind and the performance of the product to date.

It doesn't have to be about the money...
It could be about using a better product, that gives peace of mind. :sour:
What's That worth to you?

If you use a true synthetic, Type IV, Ester based oil you can easily extend your oil changes and still have better protection. I use Amsoil and change at 5,500~6,000 miles. It's great on long trips because I don't have to get the oil changed during my ride.

If you are riding an RT, 2 up and pulling a trailer you're putting a huge load on your oil. My $0.02 is to run the best lubrication I can. There are other products that are comparable to Amsoil, but not very many.

Most 'Synthetic' oils sold today are standard Type III mineral based products with a lot of additives. The additives break down (especially when subjected to the sheer of a transmission) and then you're left with insufficient lubrication. That is why shorter change intervals are required and I do not recommend exceeding them if you are using this kind of product.
