• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Full speed on the Autobahn

They don't limit the speed in the US either, that person is wrong.

I remember seeing a picture of the larger sprocket, I thought it was from Australia, but Europe makes much more sense. You guys do love to drive fast.

Did the F3 wobble at that speed? I've had my RT up to 106 and, while I don't think it had much more left, I backed off as it felt wobbly to me.
Unfortunately I don't have the F3 yet... This was my 2012 RS. But it felt very stable, no wobbling at all...

Good Post

I like the fact that everyone has different views, and especially when we get info from overseas! Keep up the posts. I can't imagine how much fun the Autobaun would be on a Spyder!

ps: Just ignore the haters, there are a few of them that pop onto these threads just to condemn people for views different from their own.

I have had my 2013 RT @ 105mph 2 up for a sec. :yikes: The wife wanted to know how fast it went...yeah that's the ticket (or lack there of). Looks like the 1330 doesn't have much more top end than previous years. :dontknow: It may get there a touch quicker due to torque.

FInal drive makes a diference.

Would love to ride the Autobahn on a F3. Looking forward to the results...

Hi,

The Europe model/Australian version has better gearing to go faster, so Europe fellow is most probably no BS with his top speed.

some more THEORETICAL figures for each gear. First is for USA version and second for Europe/Australia. Note final drive ratios are different due to sprocket sizing. These figures came FROM BRP.

I am off course presuming all versions have the same diameter rear wheel and all gear ratios are the same across the US Euro/Aust versions.. I am guessing that I can expect to better 200kph (124 MPH) in Aust version if I push it out in 5 and then drop in 6, after all most Australian roads are down hill here in the Land Down Under! I also weigh less than 85kgs.
US version may not have the final drive ratio to get fast. Top gear theoretical difference is 23 klph -17mph between versions.

How quickly the F3 gets to these speeds is another big question? It will cost US Canadian residents about 800 US$ to convert to the bigger rear sprocket (sprocket, belt and Belt guard etc), maybe someone will do a conversion in Us and let us know what the difference is.. BEWARE the nanny is also different in the versions. We (Europe Australia) obviously will get better fuel economy... . I have not seen any (Europe/Australian) bad complaints about belt vibrations as yet.
Not sure if the 2 versions can get to 60 mph at the same rate maybe USA is quicker to get there.

Ummm....taller gears don't always mean higher top speeds. There is a LOT more to it than gearing. Nobody is getting anywhere near those speeds. Nice math lesson though.

An F3 doesn't have the power to pull higher gears. A 115 hp engine, 850 lbs and the aero of a brick will severely limit topspeed. Usually, speedos are very inaccurate at higher speeds, so mph needs to be either tach calculated or gps determined. My guess is the true topspeed is way under 120 and that would be in 5th, not 6th gear. Very few vehicles pull topspeed in their highest gear. (they need the rpm of a lower gear to achieve their max hp)

the charts are in kph

i did highlight theoretical. Engineers have to start somewhere. That's why they added an extra gear. My point was that there are 2 differently geared and nannied models.
The gearing and nanny will not let it go past 112 mph 180kph in 5 at 8000 USA model. The nanny will see to that. So you guess is correct re 5 gear USA model.
torque counts and they have a bit of that.
on a long downhill straight the Australian Europe model may get to 120. The Australian nanny also has a different power curve than USA.
USA 115 Hp is max at 7250rpm 96 ft lb torque at 5000.
Europe has autobahns Australia NT has roads over 100 miles straight and inclined. See original mad max movies made in Australia. Bit of a plug for the new one!

i did highlight theoretical.

Theoretical might as well be the same as the guy that says he hit128-or 134 ...Paper racing is just one part of the puzzle,,,, moving down the road at speed is quite another.. Show me the needle there with the throttle pegged and that's reality,,, not theory.. I call bs on 128 and 134 unless a Zo6 vette is pulling it...

I'll drink to that brother, Lol.

I mounted the GPS today and did some checks against the speedo tonight. Speedo reads 1mph higher than GPS at 60mph and my speedo reads 5mph higher than that chart posted above.

Not within 180 yards you wont......[emoji12] [emoji23] [emoji23]
No, but I did get 67 in 2nd on the GPS max speed capture.:yikes:

And it won't do it in a quarter mile either.

All of the speed calculations assume no rear wheel slip. As more hp meets more (wind and rolling) resistance the tire will likely begin to lose 1:1 contact. Head vs tail wind will have effect. It does get to 100 GPS mph very quickly.

Losing weight on the back end won't help the hole shot; losing weight on the front half would. At some point the rolling resistance will be overwhelmed by the 'barn door' aerodynamics.

My 2016 Z06 gets here in July and I'll have to try pulling my wife's F3 then...........

As I said the f3s MAY get to 120 anything above 120 is dreaming (anything above 115 for USA model.)
'on a long downhill straight the Australian Europe model may get to 120.'

Life would be boring if we could not dispute theories, we would be still falling of the edge of the world.

I helped design some American / Australian cars so I no all about what can go wrong, usually $5.00 parts. or a nice little fuel line that can catch on fire on a Pontiac Fiero, a mate of mine took the blame for that.
I also have given up racing cars and bikes so 75 mph is just fine fore me.

I think this sums up what you are saying ..

[h=3]Power[/h]The power required to overcome the aerodynamic drag is given by:
e31430f0898268091f410282a89503b1.png
Note that the power needed to push an object through a fluid increases as the cube of the velocity. A car cruising on a highway at 50 mph (80 km/h) may require only 10 horsepower (7.5 kW) to overcome air drag, but that same car at 100 mph (160 km/h) requires 80 hp (60 kW). With a doubling of speed the drag (force) quadruples per the formula. Exerting four times the force over a fixed distance produces four times as much work. At twice the speed the work (resulting in displacement over a fixed distance) is done twice as fast. Since power is the rate of doing work, four times the work done in half the time requires eight times the power.

Just to make it more confusing, all the below can affect you going faster or slower on top of tyre slip. and maybe we can get some COD info from a wind tunnel (just kidding). Kinetic FRICTION is a wonderful thing stops everything we want to do. We also did not mention in the rain, moving through a fluid is slow and it also gets you wet.

...Show me the needle there with the throttle pegged and that's reality,,, not theory.. .....

For what it's worth, there is a youtube vid of a Spyder doing 205kph floating around (that's about 128 mph); 3 runs I think, once each way on one section of Fwy plus one other run.... and there's no corvette in sight, altho I guess it could've been edited out!! ;)
