There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Frunk opening

Dragonrider

New member
A minor observation - I've been grumping about having to reach around and lift my frunk lid, while I turn the key (long arms...). Well, I found a deal on a frunk liner, and put it in. Guess what? The frunk pops open, just like everyone kept saying they did....

For those with the base RT, adding the frunk liner lifts the weather stripping just enough, that the frunk lid pops when you turn the key, but still latches easily and securely. While adding the liner is not as cheap as Mike's foam fix, I do like the liner to keep frunk items from rattling around.

SPRING

BRP sells a 'spring' just for this purpose, $5. ask your parts dept. guy/gal for one....

Agree..!!

:agree: or your local home depot or car shop has springs that do the trick for a quarter of the price...

SPRING THING

Dan,
I think that the fix with a spring, is pretty much an "RS" item...
The RTs are a whole lot different.
:agree::agree::agree:..............I did the foam trick because I don't have the liner just the removable Hoppnel "FRUNK " bag......The foam really works tho :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.Mike

The frunkliner's aren't all that pricey, and they do offer some padding for the stuff that you throw in there...

I'M HAPPY

:chat:..............However since I don;'t usually carry around a lot of loose EGGS, the Hoppnel bag serves my purposes better..................just sayin, Mike

Lots of ways to skin this cat - when I raised the question, I got a lot of responses from folks stating that their frunk just popped open... They must have an "S" or better with the liner. Adding the liner to my base yielded the same result.

I was excited & just want to share a finding.... thanks for the foam idea Mike! (Springs are for the RS....) It was a good one.

I use to use two hands but found out my'13 had updated entry so I can push and turn key, even with engine running & then open frunk, one other rider i meet was shocked to see & did not know hers would do also till I showed her :) sometimes you just gotta try, not sure what yr models do what, spring sounds like good option. ( have an old mag light? Same size spring in it fyi, options)

But Mike...
What if you miss an opportunity for an omelette? :dontknow:
:lecturef_smilie: And don't forget the bacon either! :D

OK.. I have a 2014 RT limited... where does the spring mount to facilitate the trunk opening... and if anyone would happen to have a picture of the spring and where its mounted it would be greatly appreciated ... !!! I have LOTS of trouble opening my frunk..

The RT Frunklids and latches are an entirely different animal...
I believe that some folks have mounted a spring down in front by the hinges; not up at the latch...

Well that's a change. Usually it's the RT folks giving advice that does not apply to RS and ST people. :joke:

For RS and ST people reading this. These models come from the factory with a spring to pop the hood already. Not sure when this started I think 2010 or 2011.

You already have a spring installed from the factory. No need to install one.

All models 2010 and later I believe can open the front trunk and unlock seat with the key, with the engine running. Not clearly explained in the owners guide. What surprises me is how many people don't know you can lock your handlebars all models. Also surprises me how many RT folks don't know that they can lock their glovebox.

FOAM

Where do you put foam?
I see you have an RT.....so the FOAM pieces go on either side of the BRACKET RECEIVER as you look down at the top of the frunk opening.....I had some fairly stiff foam so it is only 1/2 inch thick......it all depends on what you have.......experiment until it works OK then just put a dab of silicone ( or similar ) to keep it in place .......Mike

And the key won't turn all the way to the lock position, even with the bars turned hard left or right, unless the glove box is latched closed. Ask how I know. :gaah:
