• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Front cargo “frunk” contact switch not working - can it be disabled with BUDS? Any ideas to fix?

2019 RTL here. I think the front cargo warning message has been disabled. I bought the bike used and just discovered extra horns and fished a cut off aftermarket pigtail out from under the front windshield, so I know work has been done on it.

My rear cargo open warning comes up in the dashboard correctly. However the front cargo warning does not. I have tested the contact switch with an ohm meter and it is working correctly. The wires are connected to the back of the switch, but I can’t find the other end of them to see if they have been modified. I don’t see any mention of a fuse dedicated to this switch. Can this be disabled in BUDS perhaps?

Any ideas?

If you have access to the maintenece manual for that model, trace out the wiring on the wiring diagram and see where it goes.

On my 2020RTL only the rear trunk and side compartments have warning lights when the lids aren't latched.
The frunk has a light inside that comes on when the trike is running and the frunk lid opens.

There has been no warning/switch indicator on front trunks since they came out in 2010. Only rears are monitored. I think BRP thought that nothing would fall out of the front trunk when going down the road, where as in the rear you could lose stuff. Bruce

Think about it; there's no need for a frunk lid open warning. You can be going at max speed the roadster will make and the lid will not move upward. If one takes off from a dead stop and doesn't notice the frunk is not latched, perhaps one should not be piloting a Spyder.

Update: It was the light switch for the frunk, and I do have a light. The frunk liner had not been tucked back behind the light and was blocking it.

Also note, the switch would not close unless the frunk lid was manually pushed down. I was able to bend the switch bracket up some so the roller made contact with the frunk lid “tab” and everything now works great.

My Spyder is at winter storage right now so I can not check if I have that light, but I reckon it is not a standard for my 2012 RTS ?
Would be nice to have tho.
Did you find out how it is connected ?

I believe you will find that you have a switch that throws a warning at the dash if the lid is open, one on the rear as well. No light, on the 2012. Think there was an aftermarket light that could be installed, heck they have those little stick-on lights that you can throw in there, I have a friend that put one in his trike back box!

on the 2019 RTL there is no dash warning. The switch is for the frunk light.

For those that asked, if you are facing the bike, the light is about 4:00-5:00 on a clockface if 12:00 is nearest the windshield. It's on the right hand side, near the front, at the top, facing down. The frunk liner has a little pouch that should be tucked back under the light.

The '14 RT-S has the frunk light activated by the switch above the black removable panel that allows access to the B.U.D.S. receptacle. As I sit on the roadster the frunk liner has a mesh pouch with an elastic closure band sewn into the liner at its front center. The light is directly to the left of the top of the pouch and the frunk liner itself can obscure the light because it has a tendency to bow inward and leftward. Touring I use a Hopnel frunk bag that obscures the light. Locally the light works fine but, like Allen, I had to massage the liner into place because it blocked the light when brand new.

The bad thing is even when fully exposed the light does a pitiful job of illuminating the frunk area.
