• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

For Those Of Us In The North...

They use sand, not salt, around here, but I live on and am surrounded by dirt/gravel roads which don't warm up from traffic traveling on them, so they stay icy in the shade and turn to potholed muck in the sun, and they're rarely plowed when there's snow. So, since my Spyder's near zero traction can barely get us out of the barn when the lawn is dewy, let alone frosty, below freezing temps ground me. But that's okay. When I can't road ride, I switch to my ATV and enjoy the winter zipping around our fields (and ... shhhhhh ... the dirt roads).

OH SURE, WE GET SNOW LIKE YOU GUYS UP NORTH, YOU KNOW, BUT IT'S MAYBE ABOUT 1/2" @ A TIME, BUT IT'S ALL GONE BY NOON TIME YOU SEE... EVEN ON THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY IT SNOWS, BUT WE TUFF IT OUT UP THERE ALSO... IT'S KIND'A SCARY RIDING THROUGH THE TUNNELS WITH ICICLES HANGING FROM THE CEILINGS OF THOSE TUNNELS... WINTER RIDING IS 'HELL', WE EVEN HAVE TO WEAR OUR 'LONG-JOHNS' SOME TIMES TO BEAT THE COLD... WHAT REALLY BUGS US 'FORMER NEW ENGLANDERS' IS WE DON'T GET THAT 'SALT TASTE' IN OUR MOUTHS WHILE RIDING.... YOU SEE BOB, SALT IS NOT NECESSARY DOWN HERE... WHY WOULD WE NEED IT? BY NOON TIME MOST DAYS THE TEMPS ARE UP TO THE MID 50'S, EVEN DURING FEBRUARY WHICH IS THE COLDEST MONTH OF THE YEAR... WELL, ENOUGH SAID ABOUT MY STORAGE STORY, WHAT ABOUT YOURS....?

:D Danny,
I think that I could hate you just a little bit...
...If you weren't such a good friend!!

It's road salt for me too. I don't mind the cold, I can dress for that, but I won't ride with salt on the roads:opps:

When the Magnesium Chloride deicer is sprayed on the roads here, Great White goes into hibernation. Bad enough that it coats the underside of our car, which I can take to the car wash and have the underbody washed, but no way am I gonna get it all over the Spyder.

Last year in DC, that is not snow.

I take it all into account, I keep the tank full and the battery tender on if there is a break in the weather, no recent salt on the road and above 32 I am going for a ride. Although last winter in NY was Mild we road on Christmas Day, I took 2 short rides in January but none in February. Someday will live where I don't have to worry about putting it away.

Snow and Salt

I stop riding and start maintenance and modification when salt hits the road.
The Spyder goes up on blocks and the farkles begin.
Parts waiting for installation:
Motorcycle Dave seat insert
SpyderPops Bumpskid
Trailer hitch

End of Ryding Season

Here in the Albany/Schenectady NY area they put a salt brine mixture on the roads prior to snow storm (tommorrow) put it on the Northway (Rt 87) and also part of the Thruway in the Albany area early today. If it doesn't snow this still acts same as salt if wet. Put :spyder2:away last night.

 My condolences...
It's snowing down here right now (Sullivan County), but the Salt-Beasts have stayed in the barn...

I won't Ryde with the salt on the roads and certainly not with ice either.

That being said I only really put it away when there are parts removed for Farkleing, painting, maintenance and such. It never really has full mothballing in play. Ready to Ryde unless disassembled. :trike::duh:

Well

As some one who lives up North, in Northern California, I try not to ryde when I know it is going to RAIN! Now this weekend I am going to ryde in the ☔️ I will be heading down to Southern California for the So-Cal Ride for Kids and will have the opportunity to meet the New Senior VP in charge of all things "Spyder" at BRP. So it will be raining most of the 400 miles down there and back......but we will muddle through the puddles. should be interesting! Will report after the weekend! Other than that we ryde all year long!

Snowing here right now but to warm to stick to the roads. If and when they salt the roads.Spyder will be put away till spring 2017.I hope to get in a few more rides in Nov.
