• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Finally found a LED bulb for tail light

Two questions, one easy.

1. Do these Pilot LEDs flash initially when brakes are applied and then go into steady mode?

2. Any thoughts on why they are not DOT approved? Made in China and not submitted for DOT review? Do they lose some brightness if not viewed directly from behind like some LEDs? Components don't meet DOT stds? ???. Checking local Auto Zone, Advance Auto, etc, but looks like Pep Boys may be only oulet in Michigan.

1. no flashing

2. i am guessing no money to get it dot certified for when it's retailed at 25 bucks :p led itself is working very well and these have wider dispersion than others i've seen and yes pepboys are the only ones that have them for now and they just got these in themselves.

Break light change, OMG!

OK, Yesterday I noticed my right break light was out:(.
Read some posts on the subject. This thread IMHO was the most helpful.
Thanks aka1004:thumbup:! I went to Pepboys and picked up the Pilot 1157

(with the confidence of a seasoned mechanic:shocked:).
They tried to sell me a cheaper one. But being versed in the specific
requirements of the Spyder:joke:, I declined the $4.99 bulbs:doorag:.
Got home and started install around 23:00. Removed the splash pan (this is going to be easy). Removed two rear rivets to side panels.
Disconnected the signal lights. unscrewed the back torx screws.
What The...:yikes::gaah: The side torx screws are covered by this metal plate that secures the rack and backrest. Why didn't BRP put holes in that thing, so that we can reach the side torx screws:gaah:. The dealer put that thing on.
How am I supposed to get that off. I'm an artist...I've got brushes...not wrenches!:dontknow:. Sought help from Spyderfriends. Thanks mxz600 for your post on installing your Sport Rack/Backrest. All went well...then...The right screw head is stripped:gaah:. So I swiveled the bottom around and was able to get in there enough to remove then replace what was needed. Got bulbs in and replaced everything with NO left over screws:yes:! Tested lights. Worked perfectly, with no error messages (03:00). Hopefully these LEDs will last a long time. I don't want to do that again any time soon.

Thanks again to all of you for this site and the virtual plethora of information you all share.
Now Let's get back to ryding this thing!:ohyea:

I picked up 2 LED tail lights today from my local Lordco store. Part # is HIL-1157R. List cost is about $20.00/ea. Any Napa or auto parts store should be able to source these.

Cheers

Amazon $10. [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Vision-HIL-1157R-Red-Replacement-Bulb/dp/B000ES867W[/ame]

100,000 hours ... that's like the life of the bike. Won't have to touch them bulbs "forever".:2thumbs:

These bulbs do not have load equalizers...they will cause your Spyder to go into limp mode. The Pilot LEDs have them and they work great. I have had them for 10,000 miles now with no problems. Amazon and Pep Boys carry them.
Good to know. Is this the one?[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-LI-1157-Brake-Tail-Lamp/dp/B000NWPTU6[/ame]

Try this link:

Pilot Automotive LI-1157RCZ Wide Angle LED Bulb

The one Amazon review posted says they are red, come in pairs and the load circuit doesn't work on all vehicles. But, if SomeGuy says in his post above he's got 10k Spyder miles without problems, I trust him.

Be really careful with these-- the solder joints break really easy when you're twisting them in.......

just ordered a set

Hello.. I am a new spyder owner.. had the back rest installed and I am now reading that it is "hell" to change the bulbs with the Sportrack on the spyder.. So I ordered a set of these Bulbs.. I hope they are as good as everyone says.. I have also seen on here where people have shaved a section off their taillight housings that is supposed to make it easyier to change the bulbs.. I wounder if that mode works for those of us who have sport racks..
