• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Fearing the worst... please tell me I'm wrong..

Just read that post and I wouldn't advise to "grease the bearing" to put them back in.

If you have the hub apart you can knock the bearing out from the back side with a rod or just about anything, no need for a bearing puller. A socket works good for knocking them back in if you don't have the bearing tools too. :doorag:


Good idea--- Shouldn't need to grease them if you have a good setup to punch them back in...

Seems easy enough. I have replaced hub / bearings on cars, so this shouldn't be a big deal. I'm only worried about the belt tensioning.


If you do the 'lower shock bolt' removal trick that Lamont came up with quite some time ago--- you can remove the rear wheel and replace without messing with the belt tension at all.:thumbup:
 
Not really a 'how-to' as it's really easy....

Here's basically what I did-- could do it now in like 10-15 minutes (but I don't have a rear fender).

Remove the rear brake unit-- two bolts hold it on.. you should be able to tell which two.. or check the service manual.

Remove the exhaust side axle nut.

Remove the lower bolt that holds the rear shock on.
Jack up the Spyder from the frame in the center.

The swingarm will drop really low releasing the tension on the belt. Slide belt off... pull axle out ---remove wheel.

It's really that simple--- and when you put it all back together--- your belt tension should remain the same as before.

I'm replacing my rear bearings right now.....

Does the rear wheel needs to be re-aligned on install once taken off?


No--- you only loosen one side of the axle and then pull it out. It all should go back in and be the same.

So after calling five different dealers within a 100 mile radius I found ONE dealer that has the parts in stock.... my regular dealer in Lodi. Of course they are 1 1/2 hours away and I work all day during the week this week. Hopefully some of my Spyder buddies will come to the rescue and pick the parts up for me. I have my fingers crossed.

I am so blessed to have such WONDERFUL friends! My good Spyder buddies Rich and Dede are making the trip up to Lodi to pick the parts up for me.... I just can't express enough how thankful I am to have them as friends. :D

Well that's one good thing, now we have a video up of what a bad bearing sounds like.

Our Spyder buddies drove 2 hours to the dealer (closed road... really only 45 minutes) to get the parts for me then about an hour coming back.... talk about wonderful friends!! :2thumbs:

We bought them the rear passenger speaker set for the RT. They really got us out of a jam and have taken us in. They deserve it... (and more)

We'll be working on the Spyder tomorrow after work.

It better just be the bearings and seals that need to be replaced. *fingers crossed*

Stopping by AutoZone on the way home to pick up the puller and by HF to get the bearing driver kit.

If you're nearby, stop by and give me and hand (or some booze - I'm not picky). I'll be burining the midnight oil tonight and will be a zombie for work tomorrow. :shocked:
 
Now seriously, is the rear hub something I am going to have to worry about??? How can I tell if it needs to be replaced? How bad would it be if I simply just changed out the bearings and not the hub then rode 2500 some odd miles without changing the hub too??
There is absolutely no way I can get a hub in less than 2 days. :gaah:
