F3 LTD owners - how do you run wires fm dash top compartment to h/bars?

This is about the compartment on top of the dash, directly below the windshield. Having USB ports, I'm assuming this compartment is for your phone. However, I don't see any spot to run the cable through if you want to mount your phone on the handlebars, and you can't close the lid with the cable in the way. Is there another route you guys use to route the wire?

I have a 2020 F3 Ltd. I drilled a hole in the front of the compartment and ran a cable under the dash. The dash will pull off. There are no screws holding it on. But then I found out the cable would not keep my phone charged. So I bought a USB charger from Amazon that has two USB ports and shows voltage. It has an on/off switch. I ran the cord thru the Spyder directly to the battery. I then mounted the charger to my fuel tank with velcro. Works great!

I have a 2017 and when I use the USB port in that compartment, I use a piece of tape to keep the lid shut. I cannot bring myself to creating a hole in the lid, because I am not confident I will not crack, break, or screw it up. I found that at highway speeds, the lids opens up, City driving there is no issue (this is without my tape hack).

HI,

I have a 2023 F3 LTD SS and I use the compartment that is below the windshield for holding other items instead of my phone. I store my phone in the back top case.

Someone else should chime in on the route for the wire from the front compartment.

The USB cable doesn't keep the phone charged? That doesn't make any sense. The USB connection on my Gold Wing serves as both a way to connect my phone to my bike, and it keeps the phone charged at the same time. I would've thought the USB connection on the Spyder would do the same thing...

I don't know what the spec is for the USB's on the 2020 F3 Ltd but on my 2023 the USB port in the underwindshield compartment WILL source enough current to charge my iPhone 15.

Since you stated that yours doesn't charge, I would suspect the cable that you're using isn't up to the task.

As for running the wire from that compartment to my phone? I'm still working on that. I may have to drill a small hole somewhere.

I wired in a dual charge port to a homemade bracket mounted to handlebars. Wire is run up under tupperware from the left accessory port.

Or your phone is overheating whereupon it will reduce the charging rate and therefore not keeping up.

My phone? It's not overheating at all, hardly even gets warm sitting in the mount, unless the sun has been shining on it for a while.

Since you stated that it could be the charging cable, I said it could also be an overheating phone. I was not referring to 'your' phone.

How were you able to get the hole drilled in the compartment? Could you provide a picture on where you put it?
