F1 Slide Windshield

I received and installed my windshield from Marcel hours before I departed for Tennessee. It has now been 800 miles so I'm comfortable reviewing it.

Install - It's a windshield. Should be a snap, right? Wrong. The supplied bolts did not fit properly (not one of them). I ended up using the BRP bolts and it mounted fine. The holes were all correctly aligned. I did have to remove the safety card and the piece right above it to get it to fit properly with the tracks for the inner shield.

Looks - I'm in Tennessee currently so I haven't had a chance to snap a pic but I think it's a good looking shield. It looks a little goofy (like all aftermarket shields IMO) when the inner shield is up. The high gloss finish is a nice touch.

Fit/Performance - Even with the Kewlmetal pullback bars, I have enough clearance to move the bars fully in either direction. With the Corbin backrest and the Kewlmetal bars, the shield places the wind on my head making for a noisy ride on the highway. This may be a result of the upright riding position my bars and backrest afford me.
With the inner shield up, all that changes. The wind is deflected to the very top of my helmet and noise is no longer an issue. I don't know how I ever lived without this thing! It's quieter, warmer, and I'm not exhausted after a long ride from fighting the wind on my chest. I rode 800 miles through a few storms with just a shorty helmet and goggles. It even kept me relatively dry and comfortable during a thunderstorm in Indiana.

I'm a huge fan of this shield. It's made tough and the track system for the inner shield is stupidly simple and effective. The bolts are a disappointment but that does little to diminish my overall happiness with Marcel's latest windshield. This is one of those products that will change how you ride. Get one.

I agree with you daddydarko. I've had my slider shield for two days now and its working great for me. Marcel did have to make me a taller version, my stationary shield is 3" taller than his standard slide screen stationary shield. When I was telling him about the standard slide screen not being quite tall enough for me, I told him about the knobs hitting the dash, preventing the adjustable shield from retracting all the way. He told me that those large knobs were something that was added at the last second to make it easier for people to turn the knobs with gloves on. He has smaller knobs available if you wanted to put the safety card back on.

Fit / performance, looks - my review is 100% the same as yours. I actually get the quietest ride on the expressway with the shield raised and my full face helmet visor up! :doorag:

Install - I had no problems using the screws he supplied. The shield lined up great and the screws fit fine.

F1 Slider's a winner!

BJT just installed the extra F1 (short) slide on my Spyder yesterday. What a difference this windshield makes! There's no back pressure from wind nor is there any vaccuum felt in front of me as with the original Evo III. And compared to BRP's touring windshield...well let's just say that there's no comparison. Marcel really did his homework on this one. :2thumbs: ...Joan

How closely did the bottom portion of the windshield mirror the contour of the Spyder's convex mounting surface? Did the windshield fit flush against the Spyder or did you have to force it to conform by torquing on the bolts? I'm asking because the most recent aftermarket windshield I bought (which I have since returned to the manufacturer) did not contour the Spyder. Even after I torqued down on the bolts, the parting surfaces in the bolt-hole areas never "met" (hope that makes sense) thus creating a high potential for stress cracks in short order. Compare the fit of your new windshield to the fit of your original Spyder windshield (which is a perfect parting-surface match on my Spyder).

Thanks!

Ken

It required a little more elbow grease than the stock but Marcel's shield is nigh-indestructible. Watch the [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlS1huFj4Ik"]YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia] of him running over it with his van. Stress cracks aren't going to be an issue.

I also order and recieved this...I had one bolt that did not fit right. With the windshield down I actually get more wind at my head than the stock, but when I put it a little more than half way up it is great! I did not have to remove my top piece so I most of got the smaller knobs which are fine...no problems adjusting while I am riding. I do not really like the look with it up so when I ride around town or near my destination I drop it. Like the look when it is down. Marcel hit a homerun with this one

Spyder Slider Windshield Review

A month ago I decided I didn’t want to wait for the C.H.A.D windshield and made the decision to call Marcel July (www.spyderwindshields.com) and order his new Slider. He said it would take a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks before I would receive it. I ordered the tall one, dark smoke with side extensions since I have the Kewl Metal mirror extensions. He also agreed not to charge my credit card until it was ready to ship.

I returned home last evening after a short vacation and the windshield was sitting on my front porch. 4 weeks after placing my order.

The box was shipped via DHL and arrived in very good condition. The windshield was wrapped and packed very well and included 4 mounting screws. Marcel had previously explained to me how to install it when he called to say it was ready to ship and I provided him with my credit card number.

With my wife helping hold it, the install went very smooth and all the holes lined up with no force required. I am glad I asked for the extension for the mirrors because it provides a more finished look.

It was already dark out but I still wanted to try it out. It was also only 37 degrees!

With the slide down, the wind is similar to the stock windshield, which is what I wanted and expected. I cruised around at 45 mph with it down and my visor down. Everything felt good with a noticeable reduced wind noise.

I then extended it all the way up and jumped on the expressway. WOW! FANTASTIC! The wind went up and over my helmet! I even put my visor UP and actually preferred it that way. I had more wind noise with my visor down! I did notice a very, ever so slight suction or pulling effect on my body towards the shield. I also noticed that my hands were nicely protected by the extensions. My line of sight with it extended is over the shield, just like it should be.

I am extremely pleased with this windshield and together with my new thermal suit (thanks Deb) I will be able to extend my ryding season!

I just got one too. Very well made piece of work. Really looks good on the Spyder. Works much better than my expectations. I for one want to give Marcel a "AT-A-Boy" for this.
Here in Arkansas I think I will be able to ride all winter now.

Mike

I alos got mine a few weekks ago and like it a lot. Fits & works well. Although I would have preferred asking for one that extends a couple of inches higher.

Thanks for all your previous posts. I thought I was going crazy that my new taller windshield would be much much noisier than the stock shorty.

After adjusting the second shield up its better but this was so counter intuitive to me I was taken by surprise.

I had planned to ride with the second shield down except in inclement weather but clearly that will not be possible.

Anyone else also have a bear of a time getting a couple of the screws back in? :yikes:

I just got mine and got it put on. All bolts went in smooth til I got to the last one, it took alot of pulling and twisting to muscle it in. Haven't had the time to ride with it on yet but seems like its going to be a odd feeling. I got dark smoke and light smoke slide. With it all the way down I can hardly see over it. Marcel told me I needed the tallest one since I am 5'11". Definately won't be seeing anything directly in front of me if something runs out. Everybody else have the same feeling? Love the windshield though, best quality I've ever seen. Please give me some feedback guys! Thanks

Installed mine a few days ago. Took the dealer replacing the upper screw sleeves to get the perfect fit. Not the windshields fault. As soon as I removed the original screws they would not fit back in their original sockets. They are very soft and cheap in my opinion.

Otherwise, I am pleased with the larger windshield though honestly its my first on any motorcycle. I am generally living large on my Spyder. lol

i am 5 10 and got the shorter one and it was perfect till i installed riser now it's little bit just short. i think ryders who are just inch or 2 short of 6' is right in between the sizes.

I think you are right, it will prob work slid all the way down for now. I don't have risers yet, but sure I will in the future. After setting on it again, my wife said it is exactly nose high, so that should be good to go for now. Hoping to be able to get it out for a spin soon.
About the screws sleeves, I didn't seem to have any trouble with those, I figured they would want to strip thread real quick. Especially having to force the shield and thread at the same time, Marcels bolts worked good. :2thumbs: to Marcel!

Fortunately the screw sleeves are cheap and easy to replace so if anyone does find them stripped the dealer can replace them quick and easy.

Finally got to get the :spyder2: out for a run with the new shield. Marcel hit a homerun with this one. Thought it was going to be too tall but actually after a few miles I pulled over and raised it up a few inches, and wow no wind on head or anywhere. Really made for a relaxing, enjoyable ride. Other than the hideous sputtering and surging still going on.

How does this shield compare to the CHAD? I am considering changing out my CAL-SCI XL and want the best protection for myself and passenger; I also want it to look good. nojoke BTW, I have the 2" mirror extensions installed.:f_spider:

I would seriously look at the CHAD-- or perhaps the Madstad robobracket.

The F1 slider concerns me because you have 2 metal rails pointing right towards the rider----:yikes:

I like the looks and the design of the f1 slider, but it did not work well for me. I am 6' and tried both sizes, with and without the NMN risers. There was a quiet pocket if I put the shield all the way up and ducked down a few inches, but in a normal riding position I got tons of head buffeting. Back to stock and considering the CHAD.
