Extended Warranty Issues

I purchased a RPM One 5 year extended warranty for my 2013 RT Limited. Had a problem with noise and rattle from the engine area.
The local dealer said not problem the had blanket approval for repairs up to $750.00. Up on tear down and examination it was determined the gear on the engine out put shaft was worn, thus causing adverse clutch wear. Repairs were made and a claim was made with RPM One and was promptly rejected, RPM One stated I had not had the Spyder service as required. All service records were submitted and showed that all service was completed on or ahead of the recommended schedule. Again refused to pay the claim stating that "clutch plates" were a normal wear item and did not qualify for repair. After a long discussion that the Gear caused the excess wear and if that was an issue with clutch plates I would pay for the replacement of the Clutch plates but RPM One should cover the worn gear on the output shaft, Still rejected the claim.
On further investigation I found the RPM One is not licensed or registered to do business in Washington State.
My point is to caution Spyder Ryders to be careful purchasing a extended warranty from RPM One. RPM One was also banned from doing business in Washington State. All if this makes it difficult to try and recover my loss.
RPM One is a scam company in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing this here, people need to know when there are bad companies out there. I hope you can get somewhere with your claim against them.

I never buy non factory warrantys. They try to get out of paying. My sister had one and her timing chain broke. They claim she abused the car. Yeah right.

Call the insurance commissioner, he will make sure that you at least get your money back and probably fine the hell out of them.

Pitzerwm, from my past experience for 27+ years in the mechanical field repairing and managing, at least with cars/ trucks/ semi's I wouldn't count on the insurance commissioner being much help. A lot of aftermarket warranty's aren't worth the paper they are written on when it comes time for them to authorize a repair. Its always "your " fault. The dealership I worked at got stung so many times or had to wait forever to get paid that we just finally quit accepting them. We would tell the customer they would have to pay us for all repairs before they would get their car back and that they would have to seek reimbursement themselves from the warranty company. We would of course furnish all information, parts, talk with the company, or whatever to help the customer. I would recommend factory/extended warranty's only and they can be a pain at times to get the company to agree with repairs. Good Luck to the OP! safe riding!

Thanks....

Thanks for the heads up.... reasearch the companies you deal with...if in doubt check with the BBB etc...:lecturef_smilie:

Unfortunately, the subject has come up before. Unless you know the company sponsoring the warranty, you can get the six foot golden shaft.

I would start with the dealer that sold you the worthless warranty. They should be a little more worried about reputation that the big company with all the lawyers.

Since they sold insurance in a state that they had no license, I'm pretty sure that the Insurance dude will do something, he probably won't make them pay all of his bill, but they are in deep poop. They will wish that they had paid it, because the fines etc will be a lot more.

Just to add a little input here, as we've worked with RPMONE previously so this may help your situation or someone else. ALL warranty providers (OEM or aftermarket) will only cover what is deemed to be a manufacturer defect. With that said wear items would not be covered. If you and/or your dealer can show that a gear failure/defect caused the damage and/or excessive wear of other components they should absolutely be covered. If you and your dealer feel this is the case, your dealer can request an adjuster to come out and look at the damage and make a final determination.

To put this is perspective (not on a Spyder) we once had a clutch basket failure which caused extensive clutch damage. We had to go up the chain, but the adjuster determined that the basket failed causing the other parts (springs, clutch plates, etc..) to also fail. Long story short everything was covered. It's often in the wording of the claim, often warranty companies get stuck on a term or specific part (in this case I can see where "worn" threw up a red flag) and will deny coverage. RPMONE is a very good company to work with, but often the person handling your dealer's claim may know very little about the machine which is where the wording is key, and being able to make a case as to specific part failure/defect is paramount.

Hope this helps and gives a basic insight.

A warranty is no better than the service shop manager.

Can I respectfully differ? The warranty is supposed to pay for what the service department screws up. When the warranty does not live up to its agreement, then the person is double screwed.

I gatherer you've had experience in this area of warranty coverage. :yikes:

i got it............

My reply was tongue in cheek. Sorry you didn't get it.

Oh I got it alright. There's more truth in what you say than most realize. Oldguy is just one example. Aside from the down right destructive dealers, BRP is sitting on their haunches when they could, actually should, be doing something about it. A platinum dealer rating should mean more than just sales. It should also include an up to date certified well paid BRP spyer tech if they are going to sell spyders.
