Exhaust Wrap - Need Last Minute Advice

I live in Texas and the temps are already in low 90's. So, after my research of past forums about how the Spyders run hot, I'm ready to wrap my exhaust. After calling my dealer, they stated, "cooler is always better for the Spyders", but I didn't get any definitive advice.

I have a 2013 STS SE5 and I've already bought Thermotec Generation II Copper wrap.

I've done a lot of research and seen some pro's and con's discussions, but nothing that I can recall that has been recent (last 2 years). So, before I wrap my exhaust next weekend, any last minute compelling discussion against doing this??

Much appreciated!!

Do it. You'll be very happy with the results. Not magic and it won't make you feel like it's 50 when it's 90. But it's worth the effort. I started at the back, as far back as I could get. You'll need to take your time and make sure every wrap is tight and flat. Overlap 1/2 the width of the tape. I used 1" tape. It takes longer but it goes around bends better than 2". But both will work. Go as close to the head as you can. Clamp both ends so they don't unravel.

It takes awhile so you need to look at it as therapy.

Good luck. It's a good move.

Have to agree..!!

:agree: other option is to pull the system off and wrap it. Replace the "Y" gaskets and seal it back up. I only did part of it but pipes on now I'm debating pulling the system off for easier access to the whole thing...whatever parts you do will be a big help...

Stock muffler

Are you running a stock muffler ? I've read against wrapping if you run a carbon muffler as the extra heat that is retained inside the pipe can burn them out.
Just a cautionary note.

I have over 20K on a Yoshimura carbon muffler and I wrapped the exhaust at about the same time I put the muffler on. No problems. Not to say that a lesser muffler might not suffer. But the Yoshi is a very well built product. Love that pipe!

It's the stock exhaust. From my research stainless steel pipes are fine, but there had been question about double walled pipes, which one person thought the Spyders were.

Thank you... that is a big confidence boost to have BajaRon endorse doing so!! Quick question... why do you start at the back? Most threads I've read start at the header. I bought 50' of 2" wrap.

Yeah, I've heard it's a bit of a pain and will chew up your knuckles a bit. Which is why I decided to do it on a weekend my wife is travelling and I can take my time with no other honey-do's... at least not until the 2 hrs prior to her return!!

Thanks again!!

You can start at either end. I tried starting at the front and I found it easier to start from the back. I also liked the look better. Whichever way you want to go, functionally I'm sure it's going to be the same.

And be careful! Don't put too much credit to anything I endorse! :ohyea:

I live in Florida and have a 2010 Rt. The heat on the right boot was so bad the sole of the boot started separating. I wrapped it with high temp wrap and it made a big difference ! I can Ride all day in 90° heat and no problems.:chat::2thumbs:

Did you wrap the pipe or the boot!? :roflblack:
