Excessive Heat has been a problem

Jeriatric

Thinks out loud
from the begining. A little time spent searching the subject will verify that. What changed and aided in deminishing heat complaints by pre 2013 owners was the introduction of the 13's. Simply because instead of getting better. The heat got worse.

People have been cutting, drilling, removing, and creating homemade air flow management systems since almost day one. All with varying results. Pick your poison. It may or may not work for you.

Heat management for the spyder is a cottage industry.

And the beat goes on.

BRP has taken steps to correct the issues for the previous years' offerings...
But most of the really good solutions, HAVE in fact come from us!
So far...

For 2014; BRP hit it out of the park!
Complaints about heat-related issues for the new bikes will be pretty darn scarce! :2thumbs:

I am not cutting any holes, blocking any airway, or spending big bucks on a cure when it appears BRP is still trouble shooting the cause. I know, I know, anything mechanical can have a problem, but, if someone's new Corvette burned up on the side of the road or in a parking lot, and GM told you to wrap your master cylinder in tin foil and reprogram your 'puter, would you really be confident in GM? $30,000 is enuf to expect NOT to have to cut holes, add vents and fans. It should WORK out of the box!

Tend to agree with your sentiments Bob; but only time will tell,
it's really too early to bring in the jury on the heat issues yet:gaah::yikes::opps::opps:nojoke

By the end of August or so, I believe the jury will be in concerning heat issues repaired on the 2013's and whether or not there will be any on the 2014's.

Happy to say that here in Alaska, I have not experienced any problems with heat issues. The beta test covers four :spyder2:'s and almost 100,000 miles. When in Hawaii last August, the rental went into limp mode from the heat when I was stuck in a highway shut down due to an accident. Pulled it over, shut it off, and by the time traffic started up, the :ani29: was ready to go again. Temps were in the 90's, and I believe the unit was a 2010 RS.

So let me take this all in slowly... the cure for the 28k bike with heat issues is a 30k redesigned bike! :yikes::yikes: I think not! I truly hope that the current ECM update is the answer for the biggest concern of heat under the plastic, now I know there is no way all of that heat can be eliminated as there is an engine in there. However I don't even want to think that the answer for their poorly designed bike is another designed bike, that's just dumb. I know the new 14,s is a better design but I don't think it was brought about because of the heat issues because what about the ST's?? They have the same heat problems but they did not get the new engine. If I can't get a couple or more years of trouble free riding out of my 13 I'll not buy another, for me and I bet a lot of others this will be the end if issues continue and no resolve come to them.
I have been noticing a lot of complaints back on the forum about boiling gas and excessive fumes returning now that the temps are coming back up. This troubles me because I had this issue as well but so far it has not returned to my bike. I know there is a lot of people hacking off the evap canister and removing and modifying things to help with the heat and fuel fumes but is that truly the answer or your solution to it. The "proper" solution should come from the manufacturer.

I have yet to have a motorsports manufacturer of anything ever provide a perfect product. Some not even close.
Some provide better starting platforms compared to others and some have more potential than others.
When it comes to motorsports in general,
I've come to find that the end user does a much better job of making things better. Unfortunately, Those that wait for the manufacturer to make it right end up miserable and frustrated.

You just had to stur this pot again didnt you Jerbear ;)

Been through one summer with my 2011 and no heat issues. But it also only had 1000 miles on it. We will see what this summer brings......

Bob

I think we need a couple more months to be sure that the 2014 doesn't have heat problems. We hit 80 yesterday but that's nothing compared to what summer here will bring. I will say that I have not noticed any heat related problems with the 2014.

Let's see...
ECM updates...
some new scoops on the RS & ST bikes...

They certainly should count as "steps"...Are they a complete solution? :dontknow:
Time and temperature will tell!

Yes, Bob, time WILL tell. But until time has told, it looks like they are still looking for the solution. I will NOT be cutting any holes or buying any fans until BRP tells us the "problem". These "steps" look more like "guesses" than cures, but I will be standing by.

Yes and with a paddle - not a spoon

Sturring the pot? May seem that way to folks who live and ride where it's not an issue. But, for those who don't and continue to search for a REAL solution. The problem is very real. If it wasn't real. Heat mods, and continued attempts to make things better(heat wise) would not be a cottage industry. :) :doorag:

It's just begining to get warm enough. Example. Once we left the low temps of Flagstaff and hit the desert floor things started to heat up. Under tupperware heat and foot heat were evident but not bad. Ambient temps in the 80's.

I know the '13 STs have had serious heat issues, but I've not heard the same of '13 RSs. Is that just perception or is there a difference in experience? After all, they are pretty much the same bike under the Tupperware.
