After an extended period of not being able to visit SpyderLovers, I am a bit saddened to see that the steering issue is still a hot topic (in more ways than one). In reference to HDXBones initial post about marginal parts except for the Rotax, I'm not too happy with the Rotax right now either.

It's funny that the morning that I put up the post asking if it would be a good idea for BRP to step up and offer extended coverage for DPS units because many are not failing right away.

You (who without speaking to me about your problem) just put this post up about your "adventure" yesterday. This is the perfect example of why I asked that question.

Your Spyder which was fine for the longest time, now at almost 65K seems to have the same DPS problem as many of the others at much lower miles have had. This only shows that just because a bike was good for a long time is no assurance it still won't happen.

I know you got the extended warranty Doc, but it just goes to show that even machines that have seemed OK for the longest time can have this problem pop up out of the blue/ I think extended coverage for this would really go a long way to make everybody feel better for sure.

I hope your Spyder gets fixed soon!

The guy is unhappy with BRP's response (or lack of), to potentially fatal steering malfunctions. He voices his displeasure, and that's sour grapes??:dontknow: I don't get it....Is the Spyder's image or resale value more important than someones potential safety?

At least he's willing to talk about what's going on. Whether folks like it or not, it is real and it is happening and BRP doesn't seem to be getting it very right, very often, do they?

He has as much right to be unhappy, as others do to be happy. If ya' don't like it, just don't read it, and pretend the steering nightmare will never happen to you.

Or read the bad stuff along with the good stuff, and perhaps form a realistic open-minded opinion......

Here's mine- The Spyder is a FANTASTIC concept, put together with barely marginal parts(Rotax excluded), and brought to market by a company that's 'not quite ready for primetime'...... Sour grapes?, maybe, but it is reality....:doorag:

Going back to Doc's original post, what disturbs me most about his experience is that it happen when he had 62,000 miles on the Spyder. No steering disease for 62,000 miles and then boom. One would think that if it were going to happen, it would be well before then. For me, this adds a new dimension to the problem. The failure can be lurking in the background for years and then one day it occurs with possible fatal consequences. I hope BRP is alert to this aspect of the problem.

When I spoke to Carlos from BRP last night, he knew me by my screen name. So there's at least one BPR person reading the boards so as to be aware of what we're discussing.

Now is the "right" BPR person aware of all the issue we bring up? Who knows. Maybe I'm easily influenced. But it was reassuring to have Carlos say that the engineers at BRP are working on the steering issues dilligently.

Reassured or not, the issue still exists. Some aspect of steering can experience a significant "blip" without warning. All the computer stuff on the Spyder and how it all works together is admittedly beyond me. I was much less troubled than I am now when you pulled on the left rope to make your sled go "left", and pulled the rope on the right to go "right". And that's the truth!!

IMHO is not related with the total number of miles, but miles or engine hours SINCE THE UPDATES :lecturef_smilie:

Update

Received yesterday an unsolicited call from Carlos ("The Negotiator" from BRP) stating that my DPS already arrived at the Clearwater dealer. Stopped in the end of the day at West Coast Powersports: neither DPS nor SAS arrived. The roulette continues...:clap:

Sorry to hear that. I hope your parts show up SOON! I am really surprised that you have been able to go this long without your Spyder. nojoke I half expected you to get your dealer to pull parts off one they had for sale, or see you post that you had bought a used Spyder to get you through. DPS was received Friday 1.29.10; stop at the dealer today and in less than 2 hours the DPS was installed, no error codes. Big steering improvement: feels like a feather! :thumbup:

That is great news! I'm sure the traffic citation revenue in your area has been lower than expected with your Spyder in the shop! :roflblack:
