DPS/Dealer woes

Well I have 2 supposedly Spyder dealers in a 100 mi. radius of me, Velocity in Ladson, Sc. And SPSC in Statesboro, Ga. And both have given me the same spiel that it would be 12 to 13 weeks before they could do the DPS recall for me on my 2008 RS Spyder I feel this is completely unacceptable . I would doubt there are 12 or 13 Spyders in this radius I had serious plans on selling or trading RS on a new model RT but I guess that won’t be possible now I’ll just have to take my chances that my RS doesn’t decide to steer me into some oncoming traffic ,....

I think you will bo okay with not going into oncoming traffic, my stealer also told be 12 weeks. If you can trade to the RT I think you will like it. Just my $.02 :ani29:

Our Ohio dealer said they got 3 dps units in. They have 26 or 27 Spyders ahead of us (ones they've evidently sold). When they put these 3 in, they send the old ones back to BRP to receive 3 more. Needless to say, it won't be done this year.

BRP was shipping 10% of the units up front (10% of the # of Spyders sold that is...), and then the dealers would have to replace a unit and send the old one back in order to get another DPS unit... Some dealers were contacting their owners in the order that the bikes were sold... mine is going by who calls them first... Did you buy your bike new from one of these dealers? If not; perhaps they have contacted the original owner to schedule the replacement...

Every owner has to make his/her own mind up about this, but if I had not had a serious steering problem, I sure wouldn't worry about the wait. Your Spyder is no different than it was before. Why be afraid now, if you weren't a couple of months ago? Just my opinion, of course, but nothing has happened that suddenly changes our situations. If BRP felt there was an imminent danger, they would have pulled all the Spyders from the road...and done the recall differently.

Just dropped mine off this morning for DPS update. Went in last week and they had one DPS on hand for RT and that was for a bike sold after mine. I went in yesterday afternoon on my way by and asked if they had any RT DPS on hand, they did so I dropped it off this morning. My dealer is going on the catch as catch can replacement.

Wow 12 weeks sucks!

We had our SE5 done on a Friday the SM5 done the next Tuesday. Both only took one day to complete. :dontknow:

Well thanks for the support, :hun: But I believe we all know that spiel by now,
I still think this is irresponsible for a manufacturer's safety recall :(.
Just my .02 cents:bowdown:

Can't wait until I haul mine to the dealer new to me in the spring. I bought mine used so I'm not on anyone's list. I have to bring mine in for a thorough going over because it has been off the road for a year. I want quite a few things done to it. I'll be a complete captive when they have it for who knows how long. :gaah:Yes, I've talked to them. All they have said, is "Just bring it in and we'll get to it" If the snow last long, snowmobiles will be their priority. My Spyder would sit. :gaah:again. I'm praying for no snow this year. I hope all you snowmobilers don't hate me. nojoke But I'd like to ryde my Spyder before Halloween next year!:(

I dropped mine off this morning and I'll be picking it up after work. My Spyder was the first one sold by my dealer, so they kept on on-hand for me and let me chose when to get it done.

Dropped mine off at 0900, picked it up at 1430. It was done by 1230. Rode for about 45 minutes, see no difference.

12 weeks does seem like a long time! My dealer got their first batch in and they had to use those to do all the floor models first. Then they started a list and started calling folks to come in when they got their second batch of about 9 units. Then they would send those 9 in and get 9 back, and work the list.

Fortumately for me I was very proactive about the process and got on the list early, so I got both of my Spyders done within a week. Each one took about 2 hours to do. I was squeemish about doing 14 because I was being stubbron about it ( I felt it was fine and did not need it) but I went ahead and had it done. Now I am extremely glad that I did.

I had to adjust a few things after the change because it was really different, but putting the RT shocks on were a HUGE help. These things are awsome when you put them on an RS! That and tire pressure adjustment and she shreds! :D

Columbia Powersports did mine. Not sure where they are from you. So far, they have done great service on mine.
Don't go to the pretend dealer in Augusta. They had mine for two weeks for the first DPS update and didn't even touch it(except for the scratches they added).

My "Dealer" lost his Can-Am Dealership. Wonder how long I'll have to wait? It's time for it's 12,000 mi. check-up and I wanted to kill two birds with one stone but I cant see that happening now since I'm probably the low man on every other dealerships totem-pole!

The problem we have is the dealership we got our Spyders from, that used to take care of them for us, closed up shop in January of this year. So, now we are at the mercy of other dealers who are going to take care of the people who bought the Spyder from them first. I can understand that logic from their perspective, but it doesn't make things like this any easier.

There should be a way for a dealer to request extra units to handle these types of situations, after all somehow Alcoa Good Times was able to get 40 units for SitS. The Statesboro dealer was told he could not even get 1 extra one for my Spyder. So I also have to wait until all of the others are done first. Columbia PowerSports wanted me to leave my Spyder with them for a week, when it is a 2 hour ryde to get there in the first place.

Luckily, I have not had any problems with my steering so there is no real need for me to hurry and try to push the issue. It will get taken care of when it is convenient for all parties involved I suppose.
