• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do you have the CB?

I didn't think people used CB's except for truck drivers. Do you have one? Do you use it to talk to trucks? Do you use it to talk to other Spyders?!? I thought it was unusual to see a CB option while reading the manual, unless this is something else.

Our riding group uses them a lot for keeping track of each other, calling out obstacles, comm between the lead and tail gunner. The CB isn't dead, contrary to popular opinion. The "trucker" phenomena of the '70's is gone which means we have better access to clear channels.

Yes, there are other options. If you like them, use them. I don't have to stop and dial a cell phone and hope the person picks up. We do use texting often to get back into sync as the message stays in the phone. Of course, all of this is provided you have cell phone coverage; the roads we ride are hit-or-miss for coverage.

BRP - CB

Jen, I don't have one, but I do recall reading here that people who have the CB from BRP weren't happy with it.....So you may want to research that aspect if you are considering it.........jmho.....Mike :bbq:

There are some up here that use CB when on the road with their MC. The range is a bit better than most communication devices.

Phones are good and that seems to be where most are these days.

Not good reviews with the BRP version of CB. Suggest doing a good search about brands.

Personally, have not used a CB since about 1972.

Have the CB and use it when I am riding with others that have CB's -- adds some convenience. Have been used to them as my three goldwings and Royal Star all had CBs. Also enables the intercom between my passenger and I.

I have not had issues with my BRP CB... I had it installed by the dealer it is not a factory install.

As has been said, contrary to popular opinion CBs are not dead. The BRP CB is an expensive option but it is made to integrate very well into the Spyder audio system. Users' experiences vary with some having no problems at all with it and others considering it to be a piece of :cus:.

Phones are great, but using them while traveling is problematic, i.e., not convenient, and without extra steps you can talk to one person at a time only. And, believe it or not, there really are areas of the country without cell signals. CBs don't need an external radio system to communicate, and there's no limit to how many people you can talk to at one time. Bluetooth is a popular option but here again you are limited in how many people you can talk to, one or two at most, maybe three, if you want to use if for GPS and music also. Plus, you have to explicitly connect to the others. CBs require no connection rigamarole. BT range is limited to a few hundred feet. A good CB is limited to a few miles.

All in all, if you are riding with a group CB provides by far the best communication system between riders. If you only ever ride by yourself, or with only one or two others, then BT will be adequate. Cell phones work best and are safest to use when you are stopped. But when you are stopped you won't be encountering road hazards that you can warn others about.

I have a CB because I ride with a Goldwing chapter and most of them have CBs. I don't talk to truckers, but I could. I have occasionally monitored truck talk to keep tabs on what's ahead on the road.

One of these days one of us on the forum will figure out how to use the Spyder's PTT button with a handheld, which you have to use with BT, not wired headsets. When we get that done then we will be able to marry a CB with BT and have the best of both available.

I don't have a CB yet, but have thought about it.

I have my 2m ham radio on the Spyder though, which I often use when riding with a few friends.

My husband and I both have CBs. Several members of our group do too. Great way to communicate in a group and I can let my dh know when I need to take a break. I haven't gotten mine set up in the Spyder yet. I need a new antenna. I am hoping it's not hard to install.

There out there...

No I don't. ..have the Scala G9 and cell. This works for me...just saying if we're voting. .:joke:

I have a CB on both trikes. I use it when I ride with my group, normally ten to twelve riders, with the sweep advising the lead about folks getting caught at stop lights, etc. Very handy and convenient for us. My Spyder CB is poor at best compared to my GW unit. It is not just my 2014 (The dealer installed a second CB under warranty and it was no better than the original install). My 2011 was slightly better, but still poor. I have installed an after market antenna and a larger grounding strap....to no avail. Money down the drain as far as I am concerned.
