DESS Key code again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had the DESS error show on my 2015 RTL with 3052klms on it, turned the key off then on again and everything was ok. I contacted my Dealer and was told to bring the bike to the shop the next morning, they hooked up the BUDS and the code did show. They then opened a case with BRP, next day I got a call and was told the module would be replaced. A few days later another call asking me to bring the bike back to the shop, today they replaced the module with a #710004916. Hope it solves the problem.
Jim
Jim, Good Luck with the module part # 710004916.

This morning I was reading a long term test on a new Nissan Maxima. Guess what they are having a problem with? They tried reprogramming the keys and it didn't work. It is causing problems with starting, unlocking the doors, etc. We apparently are not alone with this issue.

:agree: Deanna

Les, :agree: with you tell your dealership to OPEN UP A CASE WITH BRP, and it is UNDER WARRANTY!
Please post the D.E.S.S module part # so new/and current spyder owners know what the part # is.

I have had the D.E.S.S. Module replaced twice( first DESS module on July 14, 2015, the second was replaced on Aug. 28th, the same time they reprogrammed the keys, and gave me a new trailer lock.)

I have not had the DESS error show up. If I do I will post on my thread.
The part # for the Switch is :710004413. The part # for the D.E.S.S. module is:710004190.

Good Luck!

Deanna

Deanna,

My switch did not need to be replaced only the DESS module. Part number 710004916. It was covered under warranty.
Looks like I received a newer one than you did, so I hope it fixes it for good.

Well had three episodes of dess again this week. Going to have it at the dealers this morning when they open. They will have to replace the module this time as I will not settle for another key reprogram. Have the module number to give to the service writer.

Today, I was doing some errands, after I left the store went to start my spyder, I got the D.E.S.S KEY CODE "AGAIN" so I put a key into the ignition, got the above error, put the 2nd key into the ignition, got the same message, ( and a coarse I did not have my camera so no picture) the spyder did not start.

Put both keys in their holders ( plastic) and walked away about 50 to 60 feet, and waited for about 1/2 hour ( in my mine I was thinking of calling Roadside Assistance, if the spyder did not start the 2nd time, I did not have to call Roadside Assistance,) because it started. Then I went on my way.

Thank god!

So tomorrow I will call my dealer and tell them I got the D.E.S.S KEY CODE again. I had the D.E.S.S. Module replaced last month ( 7/17/15) and both keys reprogramed. I will post here when I can on what the dealer says. My spyder is a 2014RTS-SE6. I know this happens a lot.

I did start a " Thread last month on the above subject. I was wandering if anyone else has had this recurring problem?

Deanna

Im having a problem too with only one of my keys... 2014 RT

Les,

Good luck with your new DESS module, and I hope the problem is fixed for you.
Yes, you did receive a newer DESS module then me. So far I have not had the DESS error show up.

Which module number are you going to give the service writer at your dealership?

Did you try "TURN ON/OFF IMMEDITALLY AND DO NOT LET THE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN FOR 4 TO 5 CYCLES"?

Have your dealership reprogram both keys( my dealership reprogramed both of my keys, and they gave me a new trailer lock, and a new trunk lock. I have a 2014RTS-SE6) Also, since I have had the both keys reprogramed, and a new dess module, and switch installed, I have not had the dess error show up.

Good Luck!

Seems like a lot of superseded part numbers...

PMK, I noticed that my D.E.S.S Module part # 710004190 is superseded( I have got the part # 710004190 that was installed on July 14, 2015 and Aug. 28th, 2015) and I have not had the Dess error show up. Also I think I was one of the first ones who had the DESS module replaced.

Deanna

Looking at that chart I found, your DESS module is three revisions out. So they are on the third version since you had your repaired. With 5 total part numbers that have been offered, yours is the second version, version 5, the 916, is quite a few revisions newer.
So am I head of the game or what???????
With the part # that I have?????

Deanna

Honestly, like us with the original 2014 module from Jan 2014 when our bike was built, it is simply luck. I would not say you are ahead of the game at all, just currently lucky. Same for us.
I hope that good luck stays with me for a long time. But If I do get the D.E.S.S. error, I will post on my thread.

Deanna

She asked and got my honest opinion. With the history of superseded part numbers, and the constant number of failures, there was no crying, simply how I view the situation in regards to our 2014 and her twice failed Spyder.

I wasn't aware that the replaced module had failed twice.
If it has then I suppose your opinion is valid.

Since, as you state, Deanna has had two failures on her replaced module then I agree.
If you have not had any failures and are being haunted by the fear of a DESS code then if I were you I would sell the thing and buy something I had confidence in.

Gosh I thought that PMK said you had two errors show up on the replaced module.
Silly me, I must have been mistaken.

I guess that will teach me not to gloss over threads.
Sorry for the inconvenience I caused PMK and Deanna.

PMK was obviously correct in warning that at any time, without warning an error code could be returned and Deanna should be fearful of that time.
Apologies all around.
